[NASCAR-Group] Re: Changes, they are a comin'...

There are so many things that need to be done to the cars, the mind boggles.

The common body template has to go. NASCAR needs to require that the street car profiles are used for each make. A Ford needs to look like a Ford, a Chevy like a Chevy, and a Toyota like a Toyota. I know that everything under the skin is the same (except for the engines), but the skin itself needs to be recognizable.

With the resurgence of pony cars, NASCAR needs to switch to the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, and Celica platforms, use modern engines, and allow fuel injection and electronic ignition systems. There isn't a car on the road today using carburetors and point/condenser distributors.

Cow-catcher front ends need to be replaced by flat air dams, and the rear wing needs to go, in favor of spoilers.

Give the crew chiefs complete control of springs and shocks, rear-end gear ratios, and weight distribution. If a crew chief wants to run 70% left side weight, he should be allowed to do so. Also, allow any spoiler angle. Give the performance of the car back to the teams.

Do away with all the knee-jerk reaction rules, such as running under the yellow line at Daytona and Talladega, drop the 'Lucky Dog' rule, and raise the speed limits on pit road. Get rid of restrictor plates at Daytona and Talladega, take out the first ten rows of seats, add them to the top of the grandstand, add a second layer of fencing, and turn the cars loose! Allow modern fueling systems (get rid of '60s era gas cans), use hydraulic car lifts (no more jack man), and allow four tire-changers -- eight second pit stops would be amazing!

Except for the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600, races need to be no longer than 400 miles (300 at Pocono) at the tracks longer than a mile in length, or 300 laps at Martinsville, Bristol, and Richmond.

Oh, and give Brian France a job more in keeping with his talents, like cleaning the toilets in the infield at Daytona. Mike Helton can hold his brushes for him.

I'll be attending several NHRA Full Throttle events this year, but until changes are made NASCAR won't get a penny of my money.
