I just had a complete failure and now I hope to be able to determine
what was malfunctioning. The car started fine but then when i tried to
give it throttle it bogged down as if it were losing power and then i
got it to run again (roll started it) for about 1/4 mile with very
light throttle. it was idling no problem.I parked, went into the
grocery store for less than 5 minutes, came back out, car refused to
start. it cranked over strong but i never heard it fire. about three
times i heard a muffled kind of detonation like it was thinking about
starting but it never did. so i'm thinking that the coil might be the
culprit. or the fuel pump died even though it always tested fine.
comments/suggestions? thanks! rw

In the U.S., the pecking order among Japanese automakers looks like this: Way out in front is Toyota, followed by Honda and Nissan respectively. On a global scale, however, Nissan has finally leapfrogged Honda for second banana status. Torque News reports that Nissan's global sales soared 21 percent in 2010 due in part to exploding business in China. All told, Nissan moved 4.08 million units during the calendar year. Honda also saw increased sales, but it managed only a five percent gain. That's...

Poll: Should GM give in and call the Volt a hybrid?

Posted: 28 Jan 2011 06:06 PM PST

Apart from the humorous articles and the plethora of eBay finds we come up with, Carscoop's bread and butter is automotive news straight from the manufacturer. And as such, we read a lot of press releases. In all the ones I've read, General Motors refuses to call the Chevrolet Volt a hybrid. It's a range extended electric vehicle. I speculate...

We don't know if the owner of this vintage Chevrolet Impala used some kind of special tires, but he leaves behind him two very cool burning trails, just liked Doc Brown's time traveling DeLorean did in the Back to the Future movie. Watch the...

With its U.S. sales steadily declining for 7 years now, Volvo has no choice but to radically rethink its strategy.
