CB,Jack said he is getting back into doing suspensions. His son has all the equipment in a shop behind his house and because he has been getting requests to do them - he is coming out of retirement. He said "why not do something you love doing". I didn't realize it but Jack ran a lightweight Galaxie and a T-Bolt before getting into Mopars. He was running the east coast Ultra Stock circuit with the T-Bolt and had installed a tunnel port 427. Unfortuneately, he blew the pinnion out the front of the rearend, broke the tailshaft on the trans, overreved the engine. He said those sodium filled valves caused a ton of damage to the engine. He sat there looking at the oil dripping out of the rearend, trans and engine when Sam Panutty came up and offered to let him drive one of his cars - couldn't pass that up. He told some stories when he raced with Bill Stiles - Bill are you out there? He said you were trying to get ahold of him - let me know and I can get you his number. Working on all of Larry Kopp's cars, alot of Corvettes back then. Great guy.Mark J

i was really fortunate to have gotten to know him pretty well back then, when he 1st came on the scene...his 73 corvette really showed Arnew's handywork...check out how straight the camber is at full travel on that car...Herbie Kutz's cars were pretty simple looking, but "trick" with Jacks front-ends. i recall Mark Fulk from ashland here took his 66 chevy ss/oa out to baltimore in the late 70's...it made a huge difference on that car...

CB,I was talking to Jack Arnew the other day (East coast suspension guy) and he had nothing but great things to say about JL. Jack did the front ends for a number of his cars. JL is a guy that is sadly missed these days.Mark J

here's one of my all time favorite Tom Kasch photos...JL' s legendary 69 camaro convert SS/NA at milan div 3 points meet 1973.
...this shot gives an insight to JL's sense of humor...check out the CHAMPION - MANLEY stickers under the side window...where many put their names...lol. ..on the other side it was reversed to read MANLEY - CHAMPION...lol. ..
amazing to look back at the first few years of super stock, after the disolvement of jr stock, and compare performances to the same combos 35 years later...they didn't leave with the front wheels 3 feet in the air back then...lol.. .
