They gained viewership but are unable to hold on to it. Most likely
because of all the reasons you pointed out above. A newbie fan does
not want to be treated like a newbie.
Explaining the same rules over and over and over again and again every
friggin week gets very old very fast for everyone. Fox broadcasting
and Speed are the worst at that.
All the TV execs need to do is become NASCAR fans. Clearly, they are
not.
