Nissan may be forced to halt some of its North American production as
it deals with a parts delay from Hitachi Ltd. If Nissan decided to
shutter some North American production, the company's Tennessee and
Mexico plants would likely be the first to be affected.

Nissan has already announced it will stop production at its Japanese
plants from July 14-16 due to the parts issue, resulting in the loss
of about 15,000 units. Hitachi – which makes engine control units for
Nissan – says the delay is due to an issue with one of its circuit
suppliers.

"We're working around the clock to try and minimize any inconvenience
to our customers," Toshiyuki Shiga, Nissan's chief operating officer,
said.

"For now, we're still gauging when and whether we would need to halt
production in the United States."

Shiga added that the Altima and Sentra would be the first vehicles
affected by the strike. Nissan's cross-country rivals – Toyota and
Honda – say they are not affected by the parts issue at Hitachi.
