I have a U.S. Nationals program from 1978 and it has all the participants listed, and Super Stock number 3424 is Augustus H. Adkins, Ravenswood, WV. The entry name is Almost Heaven.  The car is a '68 AMX.  Dell Jones

This is not Adkins car best as I can tell. Here is a photo documentary of the car:

This car was purchased by Dave Siipola through his dad's dealership, Flemington Rambler of Flemington, NJ. He hired Ted Kijek to drive the car and the two of them drove to Ferndale, MI to pick up the car from the Hurst facility. (Just talked to Dave last night). THIS IS CAR #22. Dave went out on his own and started a company called Trans/End, going to all the national NHRA events with a mobile machine shop fixing trannies and rearends. The car was renamed Trans/End and it was still driven by Ted Kijek. The car was later sponsored by Raceway Sales and then sold to one of Dave's employees, Rich Riley. I don't have any info on the name "Almost Heaven" but look at the pic-black with gold hood scoop and the decals for the last picture are exactly the same.

Rich Riley sold the car to a collector in Sweden, where it remains today. Both Ted and Dave were a great help to me with my SS/AMX project. Coincidently, Dave sent his engine to Ross Gilbert of Lancaster, PA to be built. Ross also drove a Super Stock AMX for Nolt Rambler.
