[NASCAR-Group] Typical Talladega - lousy

It's gotten to the point that I just hate for the series to come to Talladega and Daytona. This isn't racing, because NASCAR has taken all the ability of the teams to compete out of the equation. They dictate which shocks you can run, what wing angle to run, what rear gear to run, where you can run on the track, and how you drive in the corners.

The result? A lot of broken cars and a winner who is always determined by naked random chance.

I've been very critical about Brian France, Mike Helton, and John Darby for some time now. The Chase only gives us a ten-race champion, and is tailor-made for the 48 team. The COT is a piece of junk I wouldn't drive to the grocery store for a six-pack (and I drove racing cars for 28 years). I'm not certain why I still watch, except that I've come to like a lot of the drivers.

I was talking to another fan a few days ago, and I told him that we need to back up about ten years, put the cars back into the hands of the teams, allow open practice to dial the cars in, allow unlimited shock and spring choices, allow racing back to the flag, fix the tracks at 'Dega and Daytona so we can turn the cars loose, and if we're going to make the cars run wings allow unlimited wing angles. Oh, and get rid of the phoney-baloney chase and crown a real 36 race champion each year.

He said that if we did that then only the teams with a lot of money would win. My response? "What, you mean the series might be dominated by Hendrick, Gibbs, Ganassi, and Roush?"

Ooops.

All of NASCAR's efforts to level the playing field only seem to have resulted in the same three or four teams dominating the sport. Since all of NASCAR's meddling has done nothing to provide parity, but has basically ruined the competition and made the races boring, it's time to go back to basics.

Oh, and there's no point in running the last three races. With a 186 point lead, Johnson has already won the 10-race championship. Boring, boring, boring.

I'm about to give up and focus on NHRA and IndyCar.
