Honda Takes a Look at the Past and Future of the NSX Sports Coupe

Posted: 06 Feb 2012 06:17 PM PST

Back in the early 1990s when the Japanese auto industry went sports car crazy churning out models like the third generation Mazda RX-7, the Mitsubishi 3000GT, the Nissan 300ZX and Skyline GT-R, and the Toyota Supra, one vehicle stood out from the rest and that was the Honda / Acura NSX

The NSX taught American and European car manufactures a lesson or two on how to build a high-performance sports car that not only looked good but also was reliable and reasonably priced for what it had to offer.

The fact that it remained in production virtually unchanged for 15 years from 1990 to 2005 is a testament to the innovation of its original design.

Posted: 06 Feb 2012 04:42 PM PST

The current economic climate being what it is in Europe, it's no surprise that most car manufacturers see demand for their products waning. Mitsubishi is one of them, with its European sales dropping from 340,000 in 2007 to 218,000 units last year.

The 57th United States presidential elections will take place on November 6, and naturally, Barack Obama is aiming for a second term. Politics being what it is, the automotive industry is pushing hard to get some things done.

One such issue is the inclusion of Japan on the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, which Obama hopes will create a free-trade zone between the U.S. and the Asia Pacific region.

Currently, apart from the United States, there are eight other countries negotiating the plan including Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. But three others want to join the talks that will be held this March in Melbourne.

The spot says we'll have to wait two more days to find out what's hiding under the covers, which coincides with the grand opening of the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

Ram Trucks has already announced that it will debut a new top-of-the line trim level called Laramie Limited Edition in Chicago, but we can't say for sure if this is the "Dark Side" or if the company has something else in store for us.

Subaru has released a new 2+ minute long spot for the freshly launched BRZ coupe in its home market of Japan. And it's pretty dramatic, but not in the way you'd expect an ad showcasing a rear-wheel drive sports…

Apparently, Subaru's marketing folks in Japan believe that healthy doses of drama can create some sort of emotional connection between buyers and its cars. As you can see in the videos after the break, Subaru has whipped up similar ads for its Forester and Legacy models.

And oh, don't forget to blow your nose and while your tears away after you're done watching the three spots.

Posted: 06 Feb 2012 11:22 AM PST

Ahead of its world premiere at next month's 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Nissan has released the first official photos of an all-new concept model named Invitation.

If the tall five-door hatchback looks almost production ready, that's because the Invitation essentially previews the Japanese automaker's next mainstream B-segment contender, which will go on sale in Europe early next year alongside the Micra supermini and the Juke crossover.

Given that Nissan's European offerings in the B-segment currently includes the 8-year old Note small MPV as well, it is only logical to assume that the Invitation will most likely act as its replacement.
