Porsche 911 Owner Drives Straight into Wet Concrete

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 05:02 PM PST

Can it get more embarrassing than this? The answer is probably yes, but driving a relatively new Porsche 911 straight into a patch of fresh, wet cement isn't exactly something you'd like to share with the rest of the world.

Regrettably for the owner of the 911, we live in a high-tech world where everyone has some sort of filming device and at least one person filmed the aftermath when the road construction workers were trying to get him out of the sticky situation...

The incident occurred on Thursday morning on a San Francisco street that was been repaved at the time. We still don't know for sure how the driver ended up in the cement, but we reckon it won't be long before the full story comes out.

For the time being, head over the jump to watch the video.

VW Releases a Fresh Collection of Photos of the New Passat Alltrack

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 04:25 PM PST

First seen at last year's Tokyo Auto Show, the new VW Passat Alltrack is now available for order in select markets around Europe.

We revisit it today because the German automaker has seen fit to afford us with a new crop of images that show the high-ridding estate model in a different light.

The Audi A4 Allroad's more economical cousin gets all the usual bells and whistles expected from an estate model turned into a soft-roader.

UAW Says Romney is Misleading Voters on 2009 Bailout

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 03:44 PM PST

Republican presidential candidates seem to have locked in the 2009 U.S. automotive industry bailout by the federal government as a means to raise votes in the primaries.

Yet the Democrats aren't the only ones who dismiss the Republicans' arguments; United Auto Workers president Bob King recently accused Mitt Romney of "misleading voters" on the issue of the bailout.

"Romney is trying to rewrite history and attack President Obama and the UAW for successfully saving the auto industry," King said in a statement.

Road-Rage Escalates to Fight, Gunshots and a Truck Exploding…

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 03:22 PM PST

We've shown you our fair share of road-rage incidents, most of which involve at least some drama in the form of verbal abuse or in rarer cases, a physical fist fight.

However, every once in a while, these episodes can escalate into something far more ugly and dangerous not only for those directly involved, but also for other drivers as it happened in Fall River, Massachusetts, this past Sunday.

According to the incident report, truck driver Luis Cotto said that in the early morning hours of Sunday, a black four-door Infiniti cut him off and then slowed down in front of him.

Spy Shots: 2014 Volkswagen Passat Test Mule Riding on the New MQB Platform

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 02:01 PM PST

Volkswagen is taking platform sharing to the next level with its brand-new Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) vehicle architecture that is flexible enough to be used in some 60 different models ranging in size from the VW Polo and Seat Ibiza to the next generations of the Audi TT sports car and the VW Passat.

We'll have the chance to see the first application of the MQB platform with the new Audi A3 hatch at next month's Geneva Auto Salon followed by the Mk7 VW Golf at the Paris Motor Show in September.

As evidenced by these spy photos, the German automaker has also began developing the MQB platform for the next iteration of the global Volkswagen Passat codenamed B8 (not to be confused with the North American market model) that is due in 2014.

The vehicle seen in these pictures is a test mule, meaning that VW's engineers have placed the body of a current Passat Estate on top of the new MQB platform, which features wider front and rear tracks.

GM Must Spend at Least US$1 Billion to Fix Opel and Vauxhall, According to Analysts

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 01:07 PM PST

Last Thursday, GM reported that its European division had posted a US$747 million loss before interest and taxes. While that's an improvement over the US$1.95 billion losses the company reported in 2010, in the past 13 years Opel and sister company Vauxhall have cost GM US$15.6 billion.

The European economic turmoil that is far from done makes for a bleak outlook; the estimate for 2012, based on four analysts' predictions, is a US$1.2 billion loss for GM's European division.

Chuck Norris Approves this Video: Man Avoids Oncoming Van by Jumping Back!

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 12:40 PM PST

Accidents can happen anytime and anywhere, literally in a second. Most people don't even see them coming, let alone have the time to take evasive actions.

But once in a while, some very alert or at least extremely lucky individuals cheat death like this pedestrian, reportedly in Russia.

Even though the man was facing the opposite direction when two vehicles violently crashed into each other at an intersection, he immediately turned his head and saw that both cars were coming his way and he ran backwards saving his life, and all this in a blink of an eye!

Watch the amazing video footage from the security camera right after the break.

Self-Serve Dust Cleaning Plant for Your Scale Car Models

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 12:04 PM PST

One of the most annoying things about displaying your scale car models out of their cases is the amount of dust they collect over time. And while an old-fashioned feather duster may or may not do the trick, a German company named "Momira" has come up with a more snazzy solution.

Momira's proposal is called the Model Car Cleaning System. However, we should note that the name is slightly misleading as the product does not actually clean scale models but rather removes dust particles both inside and out.

Chevy wants to Make Sure you Know that the Camaro ZL1 was Honed on the Nürburgring

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 11:04 AM PST

While we can understand General Motor's fixation with the Nürburgring, we're getting the slight impression that the Detroit automaker may be overdoing it when it comes to promoting its cars.

After a ton of Nürburgring-related films on the Cadillac ATS and following the official video of the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 lapping the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 41.27 seconds, GM has published the fifth installment of its ZL1 video series that gives us yet another insight on how its engineers developed the pony car on the German race track.

That's What Friends are for: Mercedes-Benz's Chinese Partner Clones the G-Class after the B-Class

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 08:44 AM PST

The upcoming Beijing Auto Show in April will see another round of Chinese clones of familiar Western models including a Mercedes-Benz G-Class doppelganger crafted by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., which most people know as Beiqi or by the acronym BAIC.

It is believed that BAIC's new G-Class inspired model that goes under the uninspired name B80VJ, will be displayed as a thinly disguised concept at the Beijing Auto Show with the production model to follow shortly after.

And if you're not convinced about the resemblance between the G-Class and the B80VJ from the drawings or the single rendering, a spy picture of BAIC's 4x4 loaded on a truck bed leaves no doubts about where BAIC received its inspiration from.

What strikes us as the most remarkable thing in this matter is that BAIC is Mercedes-Benz's partner in China producing the German firm's models for the local market!

New Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati Convertible Heading to the Geneva Motor Show

Posted: 20 Feb 2012 07:53 AM PST

Some three years after Fiat's Abarth division collaborated with Ferrari for the creation of the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, the Italian company is heading to the Geneva Salon with yet another special edition of the 500 that pays homage to one of the Group's premium brands, the Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati.

Whereas the Ferrari inspired model is based on the tin-top Abarth 500, the Maserati-flavored variant is offered exclusively in convertible form, though the term is somewhat misleading as the open-top model features a canvas top that rolls back but keeps the roof rails intact – something like a huge sunroof.

The time has come for Aston Martin to unveil the subtly facelifted Vantage V8 in what is being described by the British sports car maker as "the most comprehensive programme of enhancements since 2008".

However, what Aston Martin is really trying to tell us is that it has upgraded the base Vantage V8 with many of the improvements first seen on the Vantage S.
