Oncoming cars that are dark in color I have trouble seeing initially unless
their headlights (or "parking" lights) are on. Dark cars tend to blend in
with the background and/or the gray road surface. I spot light colored cars
at a distance much more easily -- DRL's or not. My current and previous two
cars are white -- I like to be seen!

I'll bet ABS has benefit in pickups and other vehicles where balanced
braking is difficult to achieve. Jim Beam correctly points out that
there are situations that call for wheel lock-up. But even on a dry
road there are some vehicles that defy 4-wheel threshold braking
regardless of driver skill.

And that, IMHO, is the essence of so many changes; sound good on paper,
might look good in controlled studies, but once applied across the board
become part of the white noise. If we cycled them in/out every 3/4
years, people might continue to notice them; but I'd never suggest that.

Hi,
My 1995 EG d15b7 Honda civic (not modified in any way) has a flat spot
between 2000rpm and 4000rpm. I have tried new plugs, new fuel and air
filters, checked timing, new plugs, different plug gap, fuel cleaners
and better petrol, checked resistance on leads and cleaned the
distributor cap and button but the problem does not go away. Does
anyone have any ideas on what it might be or how to diagnose it.

Regards,
Mike

automatic? [don't presume that "d15b7 tells us enough.] if so, it's
the egr valve and passages clogged. also check the transmission fluid
is not over-full and that the kick-down cable is adjusted properly.

as a separate issue, do not "clean" the distributor cap and button:

1. unless you've taken the essential precaution of wearing gloves,
sweaty fingers can leave salty residues on them which attracts moisture
and causes spark leakage. same applies to plugs and leads.

2. if the cap is aftermarket and has brass contacts, oxide product can
be conductive and you're simply smearing it around. replace with oem
honda cap with all aluminum contacts which doesn't have this problem.

It's a 5 speed manual not an auto and the cap is oem.

was the timing belt changed recently? belt may be off a tooth. if the
distributor is not centered to get it timed, that's the tell-tale.

Dear Sirs,
Ref: GMB/Unison members loss of statutory right of appeal against
decisions of LPFA
As ex-president of the Hoskyns Group PLC branch of GMB, Vauxhall
Cross, London,
I am writing to you with documentation of my case, which shows that
our members
have lost the above mentioned right.

During the abolition of the Greater London Council, some of our
members were
transferred by statutory transfer to the London Residuary Body with
the right
of final appeal to John Prescott as minister of state for the DETR.
The previous right
of appeal had been to three councillors of the GLC for terms and
conditions and pensions.

When John Prescott tranfered the responsiblity for the London Pension
Fund Authority to
Ken Livingstone Mayor of Greater London, no mention was made of the
statutory right of
appeal of your members. A judicial review would ask what the intent of
the legislators
was. Was it to transfer the whole job or part of the job? The right of
your members
could be deemed to still exist even though not written.

The contact for the Greater London Authority on this matter is given
as the Senior Legal
Officer as documented below.

Please do not hesitate to contact me about any further information.
Thank you,
Tony Lance
