My daughter's best friend Brooke is in bad shape... www.brookesbattle.com (although that site needs updated – she is a sophomore now). The disease is now threatening her life as it has spread to her heart and lungs. They are good people with 3 beautiful daughters – I have known them for years. In addition to the medical bills, they are struggling to make house payments and get a new roof on their house.
I am going to have a drive-thru lunch pickup "Brats for Brooke" fundraiser at Sam's Speed Shop (http://www.samsspeedshop.com/contactus.aspx) March 19 & 20. It will be a brat, fries & cookies for $5. You can even let me know orders in advance. I will send out just one more email closer to the date as a reminder, if that's ok. Please drive on by if you can.
If anyone knows anyone that can help these guys, please forward this email. Discounts on car rental, hotels, roofing shingles – ANYTHING. She also has a donation account set up with the great folks over at Huntington Bank. Supplies for the fundraiser would also be wonderful too – ketchup/mustard packets, frozen fries, napkins, brats, buns, choc chips, frying oil… I have a list if you can help and I don't have the moola to buy everything myself. J

| I wanted to let everyone know what we are facing now with Brooke and the RND. It seems as time goes on - things move a little further in the wrong direction. Last year when Brooke went to Pittsburgh , the program did her well - she came home with a lower pain level, able to run and was managing herself well. When weather started to change she noticed that deep breathing was worse. She was dx with Internal RND of lung/heart area. The RND has inflamed the tissue, muscles, cartilage (anything vascular). More or less squeezing the outside of her lungs making it painful for her to deep breathe. The pain she feels is the same burning, intense pain she feels in her feet and hands. The same now is happening with her heart. The heart feels like is being squeezed making it pump harder. This is difficult to understand. We are having a hard time understanding a coping with "what is next". No one knows what is next. There are two dr.s in the country that have dealt with this - one is Tampa , one in Seattle . The next step seems to be the Ketamine Coma to put a halt to the progression. To have her brain "reset" to a "normal" state. Brooke is to go to Pittsburgh this next month for a period of time to manage her overall pain. They may or may not let her go through their program due to her having heart issues. In the same hospital she would be at is the Peds. Cardiac Care. Right now we are in a "holding" pattern to see what will benefit her. Brooke is trying to keep her spirits up but is hard for her to do with her feeling alone. Her friends do not know how to handle this -they avoid her. I am asking for any ideas for fund raising. I need help. It is hard to ask for but....I need help with medical expenses, travel etc. I have missed a lot of work and I am grateful and thankful for an employer that does work with me. I am grateful and thankful for all that put up with me and listen and that care about Brooke. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought a simple foot sprain would have turned into this......
