To put it in perspective, a gallon of diesel takes up roughly about the
same space as three house bricks, a modern efficient medium sized family
diesel fueled vehicle should comfortably carry four passengers, along
with a reasonable amount of luggage, for a distance of somewhere around
60 miles.
So when someone develops a battery the size of a gallon container, which
will charge in the same time as it takes me to put a gallon of diesel in
my car and deliver similar performance, then I'll be all for it :-)
