Prodan Dragos’ Alfa Romeo Giulia Concept is one Mean Machine Posted: 27 Jul 2011 06:31 PM PDT It's about time the Italians get off their collective backsides and knock out a competitor to the BMW 1-Series coupe. Something a bit like the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint of the 1960s in that it should be a two-door, three-box Bavarian-killer with a sweet-as-silk motor and looks to die for. Romanian industrial designer Prodan Dragos no doubt agrees. His Alfa Romeo Giulia Concept packs a 180 hp (134 kW) petrol engine mated to an 80 kW electric motor and a 6spd manual transmission. It also has a lightweight body crafted out of aluminium and carbon fibre-reinforced polymer, with polycarbonate windows to further save on weight. Read more » |
It Came from eBay Hell: BMW 745i All Donked up Posted: 27 Jul 2011 05:24 PM PDT Many will claim the E65 7-Series was Chris Bangle's most controversial design during his time at the helm of BMW's styling division. And they could be right. Even though close to a decade has passed since the presentation of the E65, its styling has yet to grow on many fans of the brand. But if you think that the regular 7-Series looked odd, then wait until you get a glimpse of this stud found –where else- on eBay: a 2003 745i sporting a two-tone black and silver paintjob, high-riding on massive 24-inch chrome wheels and decorated with more chrome bits than a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado. If you want to see more photos, follow the jump for the complete gallery. Read more » |
Senner Tunes Out the Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Posted: 27 Jul 2011 04:31 PM PDT Are you an owner of the diesel-powered Audi A7 Sportback? Do you need more power than what the standard 245HP 3.0-liter TDI V6 has to offer? Well, suffice to say, you probably should have considered the 300HP 3.0-liter TSI petrol model instead… Nevertheless, for those of you that fit the description, German firm Senner Tuning has released a new performance package for the A7 3.0 TDI. The makeover of the V6 diesel engine takes output up from 245-horses and 500Nm of torque to 306-horses and 620Nm (457.2 lb-ft) respectively, nudging top speed to 280km/h (174mph). Read more » |
BMW to Preview New "i" Models on Friday? Posted: 27 Jul 2011 03:50 PM PDT "Green" is the new "mean". Whereas a few years ago most automakers focused on tooting their performance credentials, now the trend is to be eco-friendly. Even BMW, the maker of the M3, M5 etc., is jumping on the "green" bandwagon. Albeit a little late to the EV party, the Germans plan to make up for it with a dazzling entrance. Today, the Munich-based automaker announced that it is holding a press conference on Friday, July 29, to preview its "i" sub-brand. Unfortunately, that's about all BMW is willing to reveal about the conference, so we don't exactly know what the company has in store for us: a startling presentation of the new models or one mundane speech after another from the firm's executives? Silicon Valley “Tech Boom” Good News for California’s Car Dealers Posted: 27 Jul 2011 02:04 PM PDT Can you imagine buying a new car every six months? Trading in your MY2010 jalopy for the MY2011 model? Few of us would; after all, the cheapest new cars today are still around US$11,000 (€7,656). It is, however, what many people do when it comes to portable electronics: notebook computers, mobile phones, PDAs and the like. It's one of the reasons that Silicon Valley has recovered so quickly in this post-GFC world. There is big demand and big profits to be made in this ever growing sector of the market. So it's no wonder that luxury carmakers – among them Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW – are experiencing healthy sales in the areas surrounding the Californian technological hamlet. Read more » |

Video: Horacio Pagani Takes New Huayra for a Ride Posted: 27 Jul 2011 12:10 PM PDT It's perhaps the most exotic and flamboyantly styled supercar that money – and we mean lots of it - can buy these days. We're talking about the successor to the renowned Pagani Zonda called the Huayra. Among the very few people in this world to have had the chance to take a ride in the brand-new Huayra is EVO magazine's Harry Metcalfe who was invited to a special event for Pagani owners in Sardinia. While Metcalfe wasn't able to drive the car himself, the company's founder and owner, Horaccio Pagani took him for a spin in the Huayra providing us with some pretty cool footage which you can check out for yourself in the video after the break. Study: Turning Black Cabs into EVs Would Save London 4,000 Tonnes of CO2 Every Week Posted: 27 Jul 2011 11:36 AM PDT According to a new study from EcoVelocity, London could be saved from 4,000 tonnes of CO2 every week if its 22,000 registered Hackney carriages, or black cabs as they are commonly referred to, were to become electric vehicles. The above figure could more than triple if London's private-hire vehicles, or minicabs, also ran on electricity. The study took into account the CO2 emissions of the three most common black cabs, the TXI, TXII and TX4 and the average mileage each cab covers every day. Read more » |

Posted: 27 Jul 2011 07:27 AM PDT We all know that no matter how good of a driver you may be, it's one thing being in control behind the steering wheel and another when you're seated on the passenger side of the vehicle. But could that really be the case when the passenger happens to be an experienced former Formula One racing driver like David Coulthard? Well, that's what this video would like us to believe. It shows Mercedes-Benz F1 driver Nico Rosberg taking the Scotsman for a quick lap around the partly wet Nürburgring-Nordschleife in an SLS AMG Gullwing and supposedly scaring him in the process. Watch it after the jump and tell us what you think. Read more » |
