I just put in new rear brake shoes on my 90 chevy impala. I was told
by a mechanic that I got them in backwards. I put the larger shoe
(one with longer pad) is toward the front of the car. He said it
should be toward the back of the car. The brakes work fine. Do I
really need to change this? Why? There's less than an inch
difference so I cant really see why this would matter very much, but
I'm willing to learn, and will change them if it really matters much.

Thanks

Clem

The shorter shoe is primary and put in front. The longer shoe is
secondary and put at the rear. They have different wear rates as one
"grabs" and the other "slides".
