In the Backseat with Serene: Hot Host Takes us for a Spin Around the 2011 New York Auto Show

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 02:34 PM PDT

Even though it may sound blatantly stereotypical to say that the majority of men like hot cars and women, well, deep inside we all know it's true. Therefore, we can't blame the organizers of the 2011 New York Auto Show for trying to combine the two to promote the event to the public, or at least to the social media-active male population.

If you're still with us and haven't followed the jump to enjoy the clips, allow us to introduce Serene; the attractive and playful female host of the 2011 New York Auto Show's "After Dark" video series.

Serene takes us for a tour around the Jacob Javits Center, while also asking questions of the sort, "Which car has the best backseat for..ya know...backseat fun?". Feel free to enlighten Serene with your answers in the comments section after the jump…

German Gas Station Charges €9.99 for a Liter or $55 for a gallon of Gasoline!

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 01:24 PM PDT

A petrol station in the town of Filderstadt near Stuttgart, Germany, skyrocketed the price of super gasoline to a
prohibitive level of €9.99 per liter ($14.60) or $55 per gallon on Easter Monday, in an attempt to…prevent customers from buying the fuel. German news site 'The Local' reported that the Esso petrol station raised the price to €9.99 a liter as it was running low on the fuel amid a nationwide shortage.

Despite warning signs posted at the pumps, several clients fueled their cars and had a very, very unpleasant surprise at the cash register when they learned the amount of money they had to pay. One of them was asked to pay €209.98 ($307) for the 21 liters of super gasoline he put in his BMW, while another driver learned that she owed just under €200 ($292.5) for 20 liters of fuel!

GM set to Reclaim No1 Position Thanks to Toyota’s Mounting Woes

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 12:38 PM PDT

One automaker's misfortune is another's gain, or so it seems with GM and Toyota. With the effects of Japan's Tōhoku earthquake still being felt and full scale production unlikely to resume at Toyota's Japanese plants until the end of the year, GM is likely to reclaim the top spot as the world's largest automaker.

Adding to Japanese automakers woes are the numerous recalls and the bad publicity brought about by the sudden unintended acceleration debacle in 2009 and 2010, both of which have hurt the brand's image for reliability.

Meanwhile, a post-bankruptcy GM has gone from strength to strength. Better products – including the likes of the Buick Lacrosse and Chevy Cruze and Equinox models – are helping bring GM into the second decade of the 21st century. Toyota, meanwhile, is struggling to maintain sales with an ageing range of vehicles, bad PR and diminished production capacity.

Posted: 26 Apr 2011 11:55 AM PDT

Today's eBay find brings us a seemingly immaculate BMW M1 from 1980 that's offered up for an undisclosed price. One of 455 (albeit some bring this number down to 451) examples ever built, this one is finished in a classic red hue with a black interior. Claimed to be in original condition, the seller says it has been driver a mere 4,418 kilometers or 2,747 miles since it left the Bavarian automaker's factory some 31 years ago.

According to the eBay listing, the M1 was "garaged for all of its life and pampered" in a German private residence, before it was imported in the U.S. having surpassed the 25-year age requirement. At the time we wrote this article, the current bid on the car was US$130,500, but the reserve had not been met.
