A Perfect Match: A Short Film from BMW Classic about a Man and his 1602

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 06:10 PM PDT

If you're the kind of type that falls in love with his wheels no matter what anybody else says or believes, then we're pretty sure you're going to be fond of BMW Classic's new short film called "A Perfect Match".

The movie, which was awarded the Golden Dolphin at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, follows the story of a man called Jack and his search for appropriate replacement for his battered down BMW 1602. The reason? Blame the lack of an air conditioning system that has made his life unbearable in the hot summer days and nights of Los Angeles. You may or may not suspect what's going to happen half-way through the film, but either way, we won't spoil the end. To view the film, simply follow the break below.

Batmobile gets a Very Un-Hollywood Makeover from the World’s Aspiring Car Designers

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 05:34 PM PDT

In the annals of superhero-dom, one of the most beloved and theatrically successful is Batman. Born in the late 1930's, this iconic figure has survived many a war, the advent of television, VHS and DVD and even Joel Schumacher. Whether your allegiances lie with Adam West, Michael Keaton or Christian Bale, you have to admit the caped crusader has done incredibly well for himself.

So ask yourself: where would the dark knight be without his car? Unlike Superman (who can fly) or Spiderman (who can shoot webs from his wrists), Batman relies on a good ol' fashioned automobile to get him from A to B. From the Barris-ified Ford Futura of the '60s (read about our drive here) to the nigh-indestructible Tumbler of the Chris Nolan Batman films, the Batmobile is as much a part of the series as the hood and the cape.

Arturo Arino’s Reptile Brings the Lightweight Roadster into the 21st Century

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 02:09 PM PDT

If the KTM X-Bow and Ariel Atom have taught us anything, it is that simple, stripped-down cars with go-kart like handling and supercar performance are the shiz. With that in mind, Mexican industrial designer Arturo Arino presents us with the Reptile, an imaginary hybrid racer that can also be driven on the streets.

Equipped with a 2.7 L Wankel rotary producing a theoretical 700 hp (552 kW) at 9,000 rpm, a 4-pole electric induction motor and regenerative braking to recharge the batteries, this lightweight / topless roadster epitomizes the long held motoring philosophy that, "less is more".

GM Claims Volt Owners Seeing up to 1,000 Miles Range without Filling up

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 10:29 AM PDT

General Motors says owners of the Volt are driving up to 1,000 miles (1,610 kilometers) before they need to fill up. "A sample of our early Volt customers suggest that they drive 1,000 miles before they fill up the gas tank," Tony Posawatz, vehicle line director for the Chevrolet Volt, told Bloomberg news.

However, the official driving range of the Volt, measured by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is much smaller than the GM executive's claims. The Volt's electric-only driving range is 35 miles (56.3 km), with another 344 miles (553.6 km) possible as the gasoline generator kicks in. The combined range therefore sits at 379 miles (610 km), way below the claimed 1,000 miles.

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 08:41 AM PDT

Audi has revealed the first official teaser sketches of its Q3 'baby' SUV model, prior to its world premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show later this month. The drawings confirm the Q3 will look pretty much like the Cross Coupe quattro design study unveiled by Audi in 2007.

However, the front end of the production Q3 seems changed in comparison with the aforementioned concept, with the headlights sporting a thinner, stretched shape and being mirrored in the lower side of the bumper by the spaces for the fog lights.

At the back, the car looks similar to the concept, with the exception of the tailgate window angle, which is not as inclined as on the Cross Coupe quattro.
