Ferrari 355 Burned Down for the Sake of Art [+Video]

Posted: 07 Sep 2011 02:38 PM PDT

Car enthusiasts consider most Ferraris - even the pre-di Montezemolo era models that were impractical and tricky to drive, to be works of art. Few can disagree when one sets his eyes upon a 250 GTO, an F40 or the more recent, 458 Italia.

But what does a real artist think of Maranelo's supercars? It depends: if the artist is Anthony James, best known for employing AK-47 machine guns and chainsaws in his creations, then the answer may come as a shock.

Chevy Small Block V8 “Not Dead”, According TO GM Design System Engineer

Posted: 07 Sep 2011 01:05 PM PDT

Since its introduction in 1955, Chevrolet's Small Block V-8 has carved itself a niche that could otherwise never be filled. Affordable, lightweight and offering great performance for its size, the Small Block is to the automotive world what the Apple iPad is to tech-heads.

Now, with ever-hardening CAFE regulations and overinflated fuel prices, one would think the Small Block's time had finally come. Not so, according to Mark Damico, GM's small-block design system engineer.

Though there's been no official confirmation from GM itself, Mr. Damico swears that the fifth generation Chevy Small Block is currently under development. In fact, Mr. Damico claims that as much as US$890 million is being spent on its development.

China Wants Car Manufactures to Shift Away from Volume and Focus on Eco-Friendliness

Posted: 07 Sep 2011 12:41 PM PDT

China has strived long and hard to become the world's number one car market. And it achieved it in late 2009, holding that title until today. Only last year, 18 million vehicles were sold in China while some executives, like Ford's strategy director for the Asia/Pacific region, Will Periam, expect it to reach 32 million units in the next nine years.

And it's only natural for automakers to make the country their number one priority. Not just mass manufacturers, which already have local factories, but also luxury brands like Bentley and Rolls-Royce that try to outdo each other by unveiling China-only special editions.

SCOOP: Is this the Toyota FT-86 or the Subaru BRZ?

Posted: 07 Sep 2011 03:06 PM PDT

Our spies dropped these photos shot in Germany into our email box as the Subaru BRZ prototype. After checking out the cool assortment of BMW M3s in the background (the E30 still looks the part, doesn't it…), we went over our previous spy shots of the BRZ's Toyota sibling, the FT-86, and well, it looks the same.

However, we still don't know if the BRZ will share the same body styling as the FT-86 as Subaru has yet to reveal an actual concept of the sports coupe –the Geneva Salon prototype was a see-through concept designed to exhibit the car's mechanical hardware.

Ford Fiesta and Focus with Fuel-Saving ECOnetic Tech Coming to Europe

Posted: 07 Sep 2011 07:04 AM PDT

Hybrid cars are the readily available solution to drastically reduce fuel consumption and, thus, CO2 emissions. But they are also much more expensive than regular vehicles powered only by internal combustion engines. And the truth is they are not the only solution as some carmakers would have you believe.

Ford will introduce its ECOnetic range in Europe with the Focus and Fiesta, proving that an internal combustion-engine powered car can be as "green" as a hybrid. The company says half of all Ford cars sold in Europe by late next year will carry the ECOnetic Technology badge, increasing to two-thirds by 2013.
