Ferrari 458 Italia Re-imagined by French Designer Posted: 21 Sep 2011 07:38 PM PDT Almost everyone who has laid eyes on the Ferrari 458 Italia's bodywork will agree that it is a work of art. Even though Ferrari's people claim that it was function, and especially aerodynamics, that dictated many elements of the 458 Italia's shape, it is perhaps one of the most striking supercars currently on sale along with the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. Surely, no one would dare suggest otherwise, right? Well, not so fast. Olivier Demangel is a French designer and 3D artist who lives in London has cooked up three proposals for a redesigned 458 Italia. Read more » |
Chuck Norris Approved: Motorcyclist Cheats Death, Walks Away Posted: 21 Sep 2011 05:06 PM PDT We don't know if it was beginners luck, a fluke, or for those that believe in the divine, a case of the Grim Reaper turning a blind eye, but fact is the rider of this motorcycle not only cheated death more times than once in this incident, but he actually walked away from the scene without a single scratch! Youtube user Christocrous69, who uploaded the footage on behalf of a friend, says that the motorcyclist involved in the accident was a newbie having only driven for two months. Read more » |
SPIED: 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Shows a Little More Skin Posted: 21 Sep 2011 04:19 PM PDT What a tease; Hyundai's European engineers have decided it's time to drop some of the heavy camouflage off the 2013 Santa Fe prototype, mainly up front to expose the SUV's new snout while testing in the Alps. The new Santa Fe, which will probably carry the iX45 moniker in Europe and other regions that have adopted Hyundai's alphanumeric nomenclature, appears to have grown in size compared to the current version. Ad Watch: Unboxing of a 2012 Toyota Yaris Posted: 21 Sep 2011 03:46 PM PDT If you're a gadget freak, then you're probably no stranger to "unboxing" videos made to showcase a variety of products and which are posted throughout the internet. Toyota takes the same idea to a different level by applying the concept to a new commercial for its recently launched 2012 Yaris supermini, starring Gizmodo's Adam Frucci. Those interested may watch the spot in the video after the jump. Read more » |
Lamborghini to Roll Out More Limited Production Supercars like the Sesto Elemento Posted: 21 Sep 2011 03:15 PM PDT Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman surprised everyone when, on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, announced that the Italian company would put the impressive Sesto Elemento concept into production. The carbon fibre-bodied Sesto Elemento is powered by a 570HP V10 and, thanks to its low weight of 999 kg (2,202 pounds), accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.5 seconds. Now, if you thought that this was a surprise, here comes another one: Winkelmann revealed that the very limited-production Sesto Elemento (20 units) is only the beginning. Read more » |
Subaru BRZ Concept Rumored to Debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show Posted: 21 Sep 2011 02:51 PM PDT If we are to believe to a new report from Car&Driver - and we have no reason not to, Subaru will finally lift the veil off a concept version of the BRZ sports coupe with actual sheetmetal at the upcoming 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show in mid-November. And unlike the BRZ's sister model from Toyota, Subaru won't be showing another concept as both the BRZ and FT-86 (we're still not sure about the name), will be making their world premiere in final production trim at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show in December. Posted: 21 Sep 2011 02:20 PM PDT [Chevrolet Colorado Concept from 2011 Bangkok Motor Show pictured above] General Motors has revealed plans to build a new mid-size pickup truck at its Missouri plant as well as to reopen a former Saturn assembly plant in Tennessee for the production of two new mid-size models. A GM representative declined to provide further information, saying that the company will not comment on its future products, however, the most likely candidates for the pickup truck model are the successors to the Chevrolet Colorado or the GMC Canyon. Video: In Russia, Demonstrating Against Illegally Parked Cars May get you Killed… Posted: 21 Sep 2011 01:35 PM PDT Organized activism is never easy, even more so if you have to deal with gun-carrying civilians. In the video you're about to watch, a Russian activist group called "Стоп-хам" (Stop-Xam) decided to take action against illegally parked cars on Petrovka street in Moscow (if our translation is correct, that is), by placing large stickers on the vehicles' windshields. An owner, or perhaps simply a driver of one of those cars - a silver-colored Toyota Camry, objected to the activists' move and sure enough, a brawl erupted. The young driver of the Camry punched one of the activists and when the rest came to his help, he pulled out a gun. Read more » |

Volvo Says Dankeschön to Germans for Ranking the Brand First in Customer Satisfaction Posted: 21 Sep 2011 11:05 AM PDT We'll have to wait and see if and when an American carmaker will provide an appropriate answer to Audi's new A6 commercial, but meanwhile here's a fresh and rather witty TV spot from Volvo that thanks German drivers for making the Swedish company the number 1 brand for customer satisfaction in Germany. Cleverly, the Swedes also say Dankeschön (thank you in German) to the country's car manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Opel, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Porsche for their...participation, and all this under the beautiful sounds of Bert Kaempfert's famous tune, "Danke Schoen". Ford Police Interceptors Reporting For Duty in Michigan Posted: 21 Sep 2011 10:39 AM PDT Michigan outlaws beware: State Police is getting ready to add another weapon in its armory, or rather two: the Ford Taurus Police Interceptor Sedan and the Explorer Police Interceptor Utility, which today passed the two-day State Police tests and are ready to enter service. Although the Taurus Interceptor was tested just as thoroughly, it was the Explorer SUV Utility version that received most of the attention. |

Fresh Spy Shots of Lexus LS TMG Edition and New Spec Sheet that Says it gets 650-Horses Posted: 21 Sep 2011 08:55 AM PDT The veil of secrecy surrounding the super Lexus LS that we captured testing on the Nürburgring racetrack last week has started to fall apart. Today, along with a fresh batch of scoop pictures of the hotted up LS, our spy photographers also sent us a shot of a spec sheet that's been circulating on the internet and which we were also informed about from the guys over at the Clublexus fan site. Here's what Mike from ClubLexus told Carscoop: "We had an insider at the old F1 Toyota facility snap photos of this LS and what looked like a modified LFA GT2 with BBS wheels, widened fenders....they snapped photos of the specs for the LS...it stated 650hp at 9,000 RPM with 20" wheels. Within hours of the pics posted, we got a message from Toyota to take the pics down, which we did." Read more » |

New High-Occupancy-Vehicle Lane Rules May Boost Prius Plug-In Sales in California Posted: 21 Sep 2011 07:34 AM PDT The new Prius plug-in will be available in the US early next year and will cost $32,780 –or $8,500 more than the non-plug-in version of Toyota's hybrid. That's quite a remarkable price difference even if you include the $2,500 tax incentive and, for some, a deterrent in buying the plug-in hybrid. However, as it turns out though, the State of California may have unintentionally helped Toyota sell more of its new plug-in hybrid model. That's because two months ago, it changed the rules for High-Occupancy-Vehicle (H.O.V.) lanes, and specifically which single-passenger occupied models were allowed to use them. Read more » |
VW Delivers its First N.A. 2012 Passat to Local Chattanooga Woman Posted: 21 Sep 2011 07:07 AM PDT Last Monday, Tennessee Arts Commission Chairwoman Ellen Hays received her new car. So what's the big deal, we hear some of you ask? Thousands of people do the exact same thing every day. What makes Ms. Hays case special is the fact that, although she wasn't the first in the country (this distinction belongs to a man in San Jose, California), she was the first local to receive a new Passat built at VW's newly constructed US Chattanooga plant. 2012 Honda CR-V: Official Designs of the Final Production Model Posted: 21 Sep 2011 06:40 AM PDT There's no more hiding for the next generation of the Honda CR-V as we just got our hands on the official design fillings fully revealing the shape and styling of the Japanese firm's new compact SUV well ahead of its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. As predicted, sans the smaller wheels and some body trim options such as the protection plate under the front bumper, there aren't any other noteworthy changes over the Honda CR-V study teased with a single photo back in July. The exterior design is clearly an evolution of the current model's theme albeit with a less complicated front-end styling and a sharper looking window line. Read more » |
Toyota Says New Prius Plug-in Hybrid will Cost Under £31,000 in Britain Posted: 21 Sep 2011 06:00 AM PDT After Toyota's U.S. arm came out with pricing details on the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid, the firm's British division is next in line to inform buyers what they're going to pay for the car when it goes on sale in Britain in the first half of 2012. However, instead of giving a exact price tag, Toyota UK said the plug-in version of the Prius will "cost less than £31,000" before any government incentives, which can reduce the price to customer by up to £5,000, or under £26,000.
