Facelifted 2012 Toyota Prius Quietly Makes World Premiere in Frankfurt

We're wrapping up the first press day of the 64th International Auto Show in Frankfurt, but not before we bring you one final unveiling that flew under the radar for most of the event.

We're talking about the 2012 Toyota Prius facelift that made its world premiere in Germany today. The changes on Toyota's updated hybrid include minor tweaks to its exterior and interior design, and the introduction of a fresh assortment of multimedia systems.

IAA 2011: Citroën Looks into the Past to Shape its Future with the Tubik Concept

If you are not familiar with Citroën's long history, you will most likely find the Tubik as another concept model with an overly futuristic design language.

But the truth is that the French automaker looked into its past for inspiration as the Tubik pays homage to Citroën's iconic 1939 Tub van and its replacement, the 1948 Type H that was produced for more than three decades.

If you were expecting Subaru to shed some light on its upcoming rear-wheel drive coupe with its BRZ Prologue concept, get ready to be disappointed.

The study shown in Frankfurt is the same clear-bodied display model we saw at the Geneva Salon this past March with the only difference being in the different tint on the plastic body.

IAA 2011: Lotus Debuts New Exige S with 350HP V6 and Rally-Spec Exige R-GT

Among the many world premieres at the Lotus stand in Frankfurt is the new Exige series and more specifically, the street-legal Exige S, and the competition Exige GT with which the British company plans to make its comeback to the world of rallying.

The road-going Exige S somewhat deviates from Lotus' philosophy of making ultra-lightweight sports cars with small displacement engines as it brings in the Evora S' 3.5-liter supercharged V6 that produces 350-ponies.

Hyundai Photo Gallery Live from the Frankfurt Motor Show

The 64th International Auto Show in Frankfurt is well underway and in this post, we bring you some live photos from Hyundai's stand.

The South Korean automaker's most crucial debut is the second generation of the i30 hatchback that targets the popular European C-segment with rivals such as the Opel/Vauxhall Astra, VW Golf, and Citroen C4.

Land Rover Presents Two Defender Concepts in Frankfurt, the DC100 and the DC100 Sport

Six decades is a very long time - and an eternity if we are talking about cars. Yet that's the lifespan of the Defender, which was first launched way back in 1949. Over the years, it has been updated numerous times but even so, all versions were built on just two core platforms.

Now even Land Rover admits that the time has come for the current Defender to make way for a brand-new model. The first step is the presentation of not one, but two concepts, the DC100 and DC100 Sport at the Frankfurt Motor Show, both of which preview the production version set to launch in 2015.

Aston Martin Displays V12 Zagato Specials in Frankfurt

Making their first appearance at a mainstream event in Frankfurt, are two Aston Martin V12 Zagato showcars, which we first laid eyes on at the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza in Italy back in May.

The British firm has already confirmed the limited production of the Zagato-penned model, which will go on sale in the summer of 2012. Only 150 cars will be built, each carrying a base price of £330,000 or approximately US$520,000, and that does not include local taxes…

Honda Motor President and CEO, Takanobu Ito, was the one to lift the curtains on the all-new 2012 Civic hatchback at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show . Designed, engineered and built in Europe at Honda's Swindon plant in the UK, the five-door model promises to offer improved driving dynamics and a higher-quality cabin

The new Civic hatchback is roughly the same size as its predecessor measuring 4,300mm long, 1,700mm wide and 1,440 mm tall while riding on a 2.595 mm long wheelbase. When it goes on sale in Europe in October, it will be offered with two gasoline engines and a single turbo diesel.

Lamborghini Confirms Limited Production Run of the Sesto Elemento

The Gallardo Super Trofeo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale may have been the center of attention at Lamborghini's press event in Frankfurt, but the Italian company had another surprise under its sleeve as it announced that the stunning Sesto Elemento concept would enter a limited production.

The Sesto Elemento was unveiled at last year's Paris Motor Show as a showcase for Lamborghini's technological innovations. The automaker had then denied speculation that it was the Gallardo's replacement or a new addition to its range.

For better or for worse, the 64th International Auto Show in Frankfurt hosted the world premiere of Maserati's second effort in the luxury SUV segment, the almost production ready Kubang.

For those of you wondering about the Italian firm's first stab at the popular category, that was the Kubang concept designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and introduced at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show, never to be heard or seen after up until now.

IAA 2011: European Debut for the 2012 Mazda3 Facelift

Making its European debut alongside the all-new CX-5 compact crossover in Frankfurt is the facelift version of the Mazda3.

The updated C-segment model, which is available in both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback derivatives, features some minor cosmetic touches in the form of a reworked front end with a different bumper and grille design, new alloy wheels and a restyled rear bumper.

The main attraction at Mazda's stand at the in Frankfurt is the brand-new CX-5 compact crossover that will spearhead the automakers efforts against the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

Mazda says that the CX-5 is the first of a new generation of models that will adopt the new KODO design philosophy and the full suite of its SKYACTIV technologies.

IAA 2011: New Fisker Surf adds a Shooting Break Twist to the Karma

As it turns out, Fisker's shadowy teaser sketch of its Frankfurt Motor Show debut was somewhat deceiving as the Surf turned out to be five-door version of the Karma sedan with a shape that is more shooting break than it is station wagon.

Nevertheless, the California based automaker that is headed by former BMW and Aston Martin designer Henrik Fisker, says that the Surf combines the performance, luxury, economy and style of the sedan model with increased space and practicality.

2012 Toyota Avensis Facelift Uncovered at the Frankfurt Motor Show

Following a sneak preview of the updated Avensis, today Toyota went ahead and officially revealed its Opel Insignia-rival at the Frankfurt Motor Show . The facelift brings cosmetic changes both on the outside and the cabin.

While overall dimensions remain the same as the previous model, the mid-size sedan and the estate (Tourer) version benefit from a fresh face with a redesigned grille that has a chrome upper "lip" and new, narrower headlights that incorporate daytime running lights. At the rear, both body styles gain redesigned tail lamps.

IAA 2011: Volkswagen Beetle R Concept Hints at 260HP+ Production Model

Ever since it became known that Volkswagen was developing the new generation of the Beetle, there were rumors about a high-performance variant wearing the 'R' badge. Earlier this year, the German company introduced the production model but the most powerful version was fitted with a 2.0-liter TSI producing 200-horses. Fast but not fast enough.

However, this may soon change as Volkswagen is giving us the clearest indication of its future plans yet with the unveiling of the new Beetle R Concept at this week's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Beginning with the exterior, the Beetle R Concept sports a subtly aggressive design with newly sculpted bumpers that were widened by 30 mm, and blistered wheel arches widened by 15mm per side that house massive 20-inch wheels in the same "Talladega" design found on the Golf R and Scirocco R models.

IAA 2011: Volkswagen Buggy Up! Study is Ready to Hit the Beach

The world premiere of Volkswagen's new Up! mini in Frankfurt did not involve only the production version as the German company also unwrapped a variety of concept models based on the small city car.

The most impressive study is the Buggy Up! that pays homage to the original, Beetle-based model of the same name that was born in California in the 1960s.

The concept model features a lightweight construction with extensive body reinforcements and a roll bar behind the two seats to compensate for the loss of the roof and the doors.

IAA 2011: Subaru Launches Impreza-Based XV Crossover

Subaru lifted the wraps off its new competitor in the small crossover segment at this week's Frankfurt Motor Show. The Japanese firm's Nissan Qashqai rival is based on the Impreza, but comes with a different body style and a jacked up suspension that provides close to 220mm or more than 8.5 inches of ground clearance.

The compact sized model measures 4,450mm in length, 1,780mm in width and 1,570mm in height and will launch in Europe with a choice of three boxer engines, including 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline units, and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel.

Here's our first look at the Maserati Kubang SUV that will be making its world debut today at the Frankfurt Motor Show. We'll soon bring you more details and live pictures from the reveal, but read on to see what we know so far.

The Kubang is believed to use the same platform architecture as the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, and which itself is based on the underpinnings of the new Mercedes-Benz ML.
