Nissan GT-R Takes on the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 911 Turbo S in Straight Line Duel

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 06:19 PM PDT

Not to leave Motor Trend's recent speed challenge unanswered, rivaling car magazine Road and Track brought the 2012 Nissan GT-R on the race track to see if it qualifies to enter the so-called "Two Second Club" which refers to vehicles that are able to break the 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint in under 3 seconds.

As pointed out by the magazine, few standard production cars can manage this feat - even the Corvette ZR1 fails to do so with a sprint time of 3.5 seconds, while the exotic Ferrari 458 Italia comes close, but does not make the cut at 3.0 seconds flat.

Video: Chevy Camaro Dragster's Rear Axle Snaps at Lift-Off

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 04:56 PM PDT

One of the scariest things that can happen to a racer on the drag strip (or during any motorsport-related event, for that matter), is a serious mechanical failure as even the slightest problem can have disastrous consequences when you're moving at high-speeds.

For the driver of this first generation Chevrolet Camaro dragster, it all started with the first run when he lost control of the car and hit the sidewall.

Evidently, the driver and/or his team did not take a look or they failed to see that the car suffered significant damages when it collided with the cement wall. As a result, during the second run, the rear axle completely snapped off!

It Came from eBay Hell: Once a 1974 Toyota Celica GT, Now a Faux Ferrari

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 04:04 PM PDT

The first generation if the Toyota Celica is somewhat of a cult hero here in Australia. Affordable, sporty-looking and well equipped at the time of its launch in the early 1970s, it proved a popular alternative to the heavier, thirstier American and Australian built offerings of the time.

Let's put that aside for one moment and focus on our eBay entrant for today. It's a 1974 Celica GT model that's been the victim of one of the shoddier-looking Ferrari conversions featured on this site. It's supposed to look like a 308 GTB, though at best it looks like a 400 that's been severely shortened.

Bugatti Boss Says Galibier Hyper-Saloon on Track but Design has Changed "Significantly"

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 03:36 PM PDT

It's been a long time since we last heard about the upcoming Bugatti Galibier – in April 2011, to be precise when it was reported that the luxurious sports saloon received the green light for production from the VW Group's management.

Rumors: 2013 Nissan GT-R May get up to 570HP and Updates to the Transmission and Suspension

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 01:48 PM PDT

[2012MY Nissan GT-R pictured above]

Like Porsche, when it comes to its sports cars, Nissan's engineers follow a process of steady and constant evolution. We've seen this approach in the past with the older Skyline GT-R models, and we're seeing it now with the new GT-R.

Ever since Nissan presented the new global GT-R in 2007, the Japanese firm has been constantly refining its flagship model on an annual basis.

Now, following last year's model changes, which among other things, lifted the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine's output from 485HP to 530HP, the team over at NAGTROC forums is reporting that Nissan is already working on the 2013MY GT-R.

What you're about to watch is footage from a steering-wheel mounted camera -hence the wobbly picture- of a specially modified BWM Z3 racecar accelerating from zero to a little over 340km/h (211mph+) in less than 20 seconds.

As you may have imagined, this is no ordinary Z3 Coupe as it is fitted with a 5.0-liter V10 engine sourced from the previous M5 saloon / M6 Coupe & Cabriolet models, delivering 530HP and 600Nm (442.5 lb-ft) of peak torque.

Toyota’s New Chief Designer Promises More Aggressively-Styled Models

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 11:35 AM PDT

If there's one thing Toyota can't lay claim to - minor a few exceptions such as the Celica, it's that its vehicle have an emotion-inspiring design. In fact, one could say that, almost its entire line up leans towards the conservative side.

But now, the company's new global head of design, Akihiro 'Dezi' Nagaya, plans to change all that and adopt CEO Akio Toyoda's call for a "more emotional approach" when it comes to styling.

We have seen LEGO bricks used to craft just about anything one can imagine but we never cease to be amazed when somebody goes over the top to construct a freakishly big design.

Case in point, a full-size replica of Ford's 2012 Explorer built almost entirely from LEGO bricks, which was made to mark the beginning of a new long-term alliance between Ford and the LEGOLAND Florida theme park.

There is a reason why rally fans should avoid standing at tight corners; if something goes wrong and the driver cannot control the car, you are in deep, deep trouble.

Unfortunately, we've seen these types of accidents occur again and again but stubbornly, no one seems to take precautionary measures.

The latest incident happened during the Subida a Escusa Rally 2011 that took place in Spain this past weekend when the driver of a Porsche Boxster either miscalculated or wasn't able to turn due to the slippery conditions of the road and headed straight to the fans.

VW Stands by its Allegations, Says Suzuki is “Being Theatrical”

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 05:15 AM PDT

After the Saab saga, we now have a new automotive tale that is bound to capture our attention in the coming weeks or perhaps even months: the VW-Suzuki feud, with the former accusing its (supposed) partner of contract breach, and the latter responding in anger.

Although VW sources initially tried to downplay the issue after Osama Suzuki came out last Thursday accusing the German company of insulting his company's honor and demanding a retraction, its "partner's" response was only a matter of time.
