GM Says No to Saab's Latest Ownership Plan, Swedes Reply “There is Always a Plan B”

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 06:05 PM PST

A day without Saab news is a day wasted. On Monday, Saab's owner, Swan NV, said that after GM's rejection of the Pang Da and Youngman deal, it was readying another plan, involving Youngman and a Chinese bank.

Unfortunately for Saab, this latest plan, which put Pang Da out of the picture, didn't make the cut with General Motors either. On Tuesday, GM spokesman James Cain issued the following statement: "We have reviewed Saab's proposed changes regarding the sale of the company. Nothing in the proposal changes GM's position. We are unable to support the transaction."

However, Infiniti did what everyone expected, and less than a month later confirmed that the tweaked, 420HP luxury crossover would indeed enter production, albeit in limited numbers.

Now, as part of the celebrations for Sebastian Vettel's 2011 championship, Infiniti is offering European buyers of the FX the chance to get a unique insight of the inner workings of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team.

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 01:33 PM PST

An Aston Martin DB5 or a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster is, no doubt, a sought-after classic that commands a high price. "There are some extremely interesting cars on offer which could be the ultimate Christmas present," said Managing Director of COYS, Chris Routledge "The classic car market is one that is still buoyant and many people are looking at cars as an investment that is also fun."

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Slowly Roasts in the Middle of the Road in Dubai

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 11:26 AM PST

Even though a Ferrari on fire is nothing new these days, in any other part of the world, a brand new or relatively new 599 GTB Fiorano slowly burning in the middle of the road like an over-sized shish kebab would have at least caused some commotion. But not in Dubai, the land of all things grand, ambitious and insanely expensive.

There's a couple videotaping the roasting Italian spécialité but nothing much else is happening with the drivers on the road just continuing their way.

We don't know how the accident happened nor if anyone was injured – though we assume that if the driver was still inside, someone would have stopped to help. Video follows after the jump.

Report: Will the Italian Debt Crisis Force Fiat Out of the Country?

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 10:22 AM PST

The Fiat Group used to enjoy a strong presence in Europe, and especially in its home market of Italy, where it has traditionally been very strong. But that's not the case anymore. The debt crisis that is threatening Europe and especially the northern countries has decreased demand significantly, with the Italian car market hitting its lowest point in the last 15 years.

Analysts estimate that Fiat, which in 2011 recorded its worst sales performance in 20 years and is losing nearly 1 billion euros annually, may do the unthinkable: either stop or significantly reduce its 100-year old local operations.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class All Luxed-Up by Bulgarian Design House Vilner

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 09:26 AM PST

The classic Mercedes-Benz G-Class or as some call it, the G-Wagen which is short for Geländewagen (all-terrain wagon in German), is one of the most capable off-roaders money can buy these days but it's also one of the longest-standing models in the auto industry having been originally launched in 1979.

While Mercedes-Benz has tried to keep up with the times by constantly refreshing its mechanics and equipment features, the G-Class shows its age, especially in the interior. And that's where Bulgarian design studio Vilner steps in to update the classic Mercedes-Benz 4x4 model.

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 08:41 AM PST

For those of us that choose to change gears on our cars the old-fashioned way via a manual gearbox, the appeal of this type of transmission is in the mechanical actions.

New 2013 Dodge Dart Compact Sedan Based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 08:47 PM PST

The Chrysler Group has resurrected the Dart nameplate from the 1960s for its new Dodge compact sedan model that will receive its world premiere at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in the second week of January.

The new Dart is the first Chrysler Group vehicle to be based upon a Fiat architecture as it makes use of a modified version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback's platform named Compact U.S. Wide (CUSW), which has been lengthened and widened to improve interior space.

The Detroit automaker says that 68 percent of the Dart's body is composed of high-strength steel, resulting in a "very strong and rigid structure".

Powering the 2013 Dodge Dart will be three four-cylinder gasoline powerplants including a new Tigershark 2.0-liter unit, a 1.4-liter MultiAir Intercooled Turbo engine that will most likely be shared with the Fiat Abarth 500 in the U.S., and a new Tigershark 2.4-liter MultiAir engine.

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 07:31 AM PST

The Italian sports car was designed by the great Marcello Gandini of Bertone fame and was originally presented as a concept at the 1967 Montreal Expo in Canada before making it into production as the Montreal in 1977.
