So You Want Buy a Used Ferrari, do You? F355 Owner Spent $47,845 to Repair the Engine!

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 06:47 PM PST

Admit it; if you're one of our regular readers, as much as you may like mainstream models such as the BMW 3-Series Coupe, chances are that the thought of owning a genuine German or Italian sports car has crossed your mind more than once.

But unless you're super rich (you're not), you'll probably never have the opportunity to buy a new supercar which leaves you with only one option if you really want to make your dream come true: look for a used exotic sports car.

However, while the used supercar market offers a variety of options for many different sized wallets, before you go car hunting on eBay, we would like to remind you of the saying, "All that glitters is not gold".

Naturally, not all used cars are the same, but just because you can afford to buy a second- or third-hand Ferrari doesn't mean that you can afford to maintain one. Keep in mind that these vehicles were designed for people who had no problem spending the equivalent of a house on a car.

Consumer Reports Gives the Honda Civic Si a “Recommended” Rating

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 05:11 PM PST

Just when Honda announced it is developing a revised Civic for the 2013MY that will be launched in the U.S. in late 2012, Consumer Reports, the publication that started the storm of negative publicity on Honda's compact model, has awarded the Si version with a "Recommended" on its latest report.

CR still stands by its original verdict on the base 2012 Civic when it stated, "while other models like the Hyundai Elantra have gotten better after being redesigned, the Honda Civic has dropped so much that now it ranks near the bottom of its category."

The difference is that the model tested this time is the sportier Si version fitted with the more powerful 2.4-liter engine. According to the test results, it earned a notably better score than the basic model and as a result, CR says it now recommends the Si.

“Porsche Returns to Le Mans” Promo Video Takes us Back

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 04:18 PM PST

Porsche is inextricably linked to Le Mans having won the famous 24-hour endurance race a record 16 times. The first win came in 1970 with the legendary 917, and the last in 1998 with the 911 GT1.

This past July, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer announced that it will return to the La Sarthe circuit in 2014 with an official entry. Not that it has ever actually left, as numerous privately owned 911s participated each year and even the factory team won the LMP2 class in 2008 and 2009 with the RS Spyder.

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 01:38 PM PST

Ford's pair of mid-size minivans, the five-seater C-MAX and its seven-seater sibling, the Grand C-MAX, have proved to be a hit in the European market, doubling the Blue Oval's sales in their segment.

Since its launch in late 2010, Ford has sold more than 135,000 C-MAX and Grand C-MAX MPVs in Europe, more than double the number its predecessor achieved in 2010. This was partly to be expected though, as the previous C-MAX, despite a facelift in 2007, was essentially a seven-year old model.

Updated 2013 Honda Civic Coming Late Next Year, Company Says it Expects to Improve Sales

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 12:16 PM PST

With less than two weeks to go before the year's end, we can safely say that one of the biggest disappointments of 2011 was the ninth generation of Honda's U.S.-market Civic. Launched in April as a 2012 year model, the new Civic was criticized for its drop in quality and was even removed from Consumer Reports' "Recommended" list.

Honda Motor CEO Takanobu Ito took personal responsibility for the new Civic's poor performance. And now, the company's executives confirm earlier reports that Honda is rushing back to the drawing board much earlier than originally anticipated.

"You Me and Optimus Prime" is an ode to Human & Robot Bromance [Video]

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 11:50 AM PST

For those of us who grew up in the 1980s, Transformers remind us of some of our fondest childhood memories, which is probably why most of us flocked to the cinemas to watch all three-installments of Michael Bay's trilogy.

But evidently, it's not only 30+ year olds who tenderly remember the perpetually feuding Autobots and Decepticons. Though only in his early 20s, Canadian singer and songwriter, James Struthers, transformed [sic] his passion for the mechanical beings into a song for his debut album, Nadia.

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 11:07 AM PST

We're accustomed to carmakers upping prices on brand-new models, especially if when they feature significant enhancements over their predecessors. But given the competition from its German rivals, Lexus decided to play it safe and keep the base U.S. price of its all-new 2013 GS 350 sedan unchanged over the outgoing model.

"With all of the enhancements to the all-new GS, the base price remains the same at $46,900*," said Mark Templin, group vice president and general manager, Lexus Division. "We expect the GS will suit the needs of many drivers and compete well in the segment."

Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo to Run for Italian Presidency in 2013

Posted: 21 Dec 2011 10:35 AM PST

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo may soon exchange one presidential chair for another. Ferrari's Chairman announced today in an open letter to Italiafutura, a liberal-centrist think-tank that he formed in 2009, that he would be a candidate for the presidency in the 2013 Italian elections.

"Italiafutura with its 40,000 members will be actively engaged in 2012 to try and change politics in Italy", said di Montezemolo in the letter, which was published on Gazzeta Dello Sport.

"The Second Republic has failed. When the Italian voters return to the polls, they must be offered a whole series of new ideas and new leaders in the elections, so that they can turn their backs on what has been a period of total failure in Italian politics," di Montezemolo added.

Di Montezemolo, who apart from being Ferrari's Chairman has also been the President of the Italian industry association Confidustria, has been tipped to enter politics for a long time. He always refuted those reports as nothing more than rumors. Up until now, that is.

Following last night's uncovering of the LF-LC Concept via a magazine teaser video, Lexus partially caved in and released a single teaser photo and some additional details on its new 2+2 seat coupe study.

The full size picture confirms our suspicions that the LF-LC gets Lexus' hybrid drive system, while it also becomes clear that the styling mixes elements from the LFA supercar and the production and concept GS sedans.

"Crafted from a clean sheet of paper at the request of Lexus headquarters in Japan, the LF-LC blends both high technology and organic shapes to connect the driver to the machine," said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager.
