2013 Nissan Pathfinder Study Shows its Face and Tail

Posted: 03 Jan 2012 05:35 PM PST

Just moments ago, it was Toyota that teased its upcoming NS4 Concept car, and now it's Nissan's turn to peel some layers off its next Pathfinder before its world debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show that begins (for the press) on January 9th.

Following the release of a single darkened image of the Pathfinder concept's profile in the third week of December, Nissan issued two new photos that reveal the crossover's face and rear end.

Even though the Japanese company insists on calling it a concept, it's evident from these photos the Pathfinder that we'll see in Detroit won't differ much if not at all from the production model set to go on sale in North America next fall And let's not forget that Nissan's luxury arm Infiniti did the same thing with the JX crossover last year.

Polk Estimates Global Vehicle Sales to Reach 77.7 Million Units in 2012, and 96.3 Million in 2016

Posted: 03 Jan 2012 03:09 PM PST

The analyst gurus at R. L. Polk & Co have issued a new forecast for global vehicle sales in 2012. The automotive market intelligence firm predicts that sales are expected to rise 6.7 percent over 2011 volumes to 77.7 million vehicles, thanks to the global economy riding out the European debt crisis and consumers returning to showrooms.

However, this does not mean that the European car market will recover. On the contrary, Polk estimates that Europe will be the only region where sales will be flat or slightly down to just over 19 million units due to the tight financial plans enforced by most governments.

2014 Ford F-150 Rumored to Make Extensive Use of Aluminum Body Panels

Posted: 03 Jan 2012 02:31 PM PST

For decades, America's best-selling pickup trucks turned a collective blind eye to what were foreseeable technological advances in most areas of their construction as Detroit's Big Three preferred simple solutions that significantly hiked up their profit margins.

However, these past few years, automakers like GM, Ford and Chrysler are slowly trying to modernize their trucks mostly in the name of fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, especially now that the U.S. Corporate Average Fuel-Economy standards are getting stricter.

We've already seen some advances on the engine front including the availability of Ford's EcoBoost V6 on the F-150 and GM's hybrid lineup, but there's more to come in different areas than you'd normally expect.

An airbag-related issue has made Honda tell its dealers to stop sales of certain used cars until a recall campaign to fix the defect is carried out.

Honda took the decision in spite of the fact that federal law requires automakers only to stop selling new cars when a recall campaign is issued, as it does not demand the same for used vehicles.

Posted: 03 Jan 2012 01:32 PM PST

A 1 minute, 40 second long police dashcam video shot during a traffic stop in the city of Utica in New York on February 11, 2011, which purportedly shows an officer planting a bag of drugs in the suspect's car, is making headlines today after the footage was posted online by the Utica Phoenix newspaper.

However, Utica police authorities were quick to respond by releasing the full 25 minutes of the police car's dashcam video, in which the officer is seen searching the suspect and discovering a white bag in his pocket, give or take 6 minutes and 45 seconds into the clip.

Speaking to WKTV Utica, which obtained the original dashcam footage, Utica Police Chief Mark Williams denied the claims that the officers planted the bag in the car and said that the incident was thoroughly investigated.

"He's going into the car with it and that's what he's doing, it's cold out and he's basically separating the drugs from both defendants," Chief Williams told the local TV station.

BMW Driver Threatens to Sue Lancashire Council over Proposed 20MPH Speed Limit Because it May Damage her Car's Engine

Posted: 03 Jan 2012 10:21 AM PST

Last October, UK Transport Secretary Philip Hammond suggested increasing the national highway speed limit from 70 to 80mph (112 to 128 km/h). His argument was that laws should reflect today's reality and that cutting journey times would have a positive effect on the environment.

Apparently, this comes at a price. In exchange for supporting this plan, 27 local authorities want to enforce a 20 mph (32 km/h) on all roads passing through residential areas, with the exception of major through-routes, by 2013.

The Daily Mail reports that Diane Greenwood, an owner of a BMW 320d, says that if the 20 mph limit is imposed in her home county of Lancashire, she will sue the local council for damages caused to her car!

As you can see in the video after the break, Opel started off by producing sewing machines and then went on to build high-wheel bicycles, also known as penny-farthings (from the unevenly sized British penny and farthing coins) before Adam Opel's two sons entered into a partnership with Friedrich Lutzmann to produce the company's first automobiles in 1902.

The Roast of a Lamborghini Gallardo in the Czech Republic

Posted: 03 Jan 2012 07:59 AM PST

We must admit that 2011 was a hot year for supercars, both in the metaphorical sense that most brands made record sales, and literally, since we saw many exotics go up in flames

The most publicized issue was perhaps that of the self-combusting 458 Italias, which forced Ferrari to issue a recall. The truth, though, is that apart from the Prancing Horse, other supercar makers have had their share of scorching hot cars – not to mention numerous crashes - some of them causing mirth while others were quite terrifying.
