Spare Some Change? eBay Seller Lists Porsche 928 GTS for $109k and BMW 850CSi for $67k

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 06:27 PM PST

For many of us born in the 1970s and early 1980s, the Porsche 928 and the BMW 8-Series were amongst the most impressive sports / GT models of their time.

Sure we had posters of a Lamborghini Countach (preferably with a puffy haired and scantily dressed bomb shell spreading over the Italian beast) and the Ferrari F40 or the Porsche 959 hanging on our side of the bedroom wall, but these models were clearly a pure fantasy that only a select few could ever own.

The 928 and the 8-Series, on the other hand, were more attainable and practical daydreaming material.

Our unfulfilled teenage dreams could explain why as adults we waste so many hours on eBay and Craigslist looking for "the" deal and then click over to dedicated forums to convince ourselves that we can handle their maintenance costs…

In one of our usual trips on eBay, we stumbled upon a pristine BMW 8-Series that led to a low-mileage Porsche 928, which to our surprise, was listed for sale by the same person.

Spied: 2013 Porsche Cayman Snagged on Video in Stuttgart

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 04:57 PM PST

We've scooped prototypes of the new Cayman before (see here) but YouTube user "DrGumoLunatic" was able to film the closed-top sibling of the 2013 Boxster roadster at a stop light in the German city of Stuttgart, which is the home town of Porsche.

After seeing the roadster model, we more or less know what to expect on the styling front (both inside and out) while the same goes for the rest of the changes including the new lightweight aluminum body and the improved flat six engines.

It shouldn't be long before Porsche does reveal the Cayman, but in the meantime, make the jump to watch and hear the coupe model in the video the follows.

McLaren MP4-12C High Sport Special with 675HP Captured on Film

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 05:59 PM PST

Last week, YouTube user "Jodito20" captured a pair of McLaren MP4-12C supercars at The Collection in Miami, Florida, on film. While the silver colored model was a regular MP4-12C, the other one turned out to be a customized version named HS for "High Sport".

The info came from a McLaren salesperson who told Jodito20 that only five models were built.

"I talked to a salesman and he told me HS stands for High Sport. He confirmed that there are only five cars in the world. BUT, these cars are NOT from the McLaren Special Operation program. They are not Bespoke Editions even if they have some customization in common," Jodito20 wrote on his video channel.

The Finn who Accidentally Cheated his Way into Winning the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally: A True Story

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 03:46 PM PST

Watching today's World Rally Championship cars sliding at insane speeds on tarmac, gravel and snow, you marvel at the driving skills of the drivers. And rightly so: Formula 1 may be the king of motorsports, but it's a two-hour sprint, while rallying is more akin to a three-day marathon.

Even so, while mustering the today's beasts amid strong competition is quite a feat, it is a piece of cake compared to what rally drivers had to face three or four decades ago.

"We did one 36-hour section non-stop, leaving from Monte Carlo and back again", tells Sympaticoca Autos, one of the "Flying Finns" of the 1960s and 1970s, Rauno Aaltonen. "The 100 best competitors started the next day at around 5 or 6 p.m. on the Mountain Circuit."

Woman Drives a Lincoln 100mph for 18 Miles…on the Wrong Side of the Highway!

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 02:19 PM PST

Talk about a driver with a license to kill; a 60-year old woman in a Lincoln LS drove about 18 miles on the wrong side of Interstate 5 in Washington at speeds of up to 100mph (160km/h) before state troopers were able to stop her!

Miraculously and even though several drivers called in to the police to report near misses, there was no crash or injuries.

As it turned out, the Pamela Drawsby, was heavily intoxicated after she mixed alcohol and prescription drugs. "I compare her to a bullet out of a gun; she was just waiting to hit something," Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill told KVAL news.

Video: New Porsche 911 Goes Sideways at the Silverstone Track

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 01:44 PM PST

With no disrespect to the third generation of the brand-new Boxster roadster that was unveiled less than 24 hours ago, but the 991 still remains the quintessential Porsche.

And no petrolhead in his right mind can pass on a new video of the latest 911 - especially if it's showing the Carrera S in some "politically incorrect" actions at the Silverstone-based Porsche Experience Center.

You can watch Gordon Robertson, who also displayed the Cayman R's abilities in much the same way, take the new Carrera S for a four-minute spin right after the break.

New 2013 Porsche Boxster: 80 Photos, Videos and Online Configurator

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 12:44 PM PST

Last night, Porsche lifted the covers off its all-new Boxster that will make its official world premiere at the upcoming 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.

The two-seater roadster model will arrive in European dealerships in early April with a starting price of €48,291 (US$61,500) in Germany, followed by the U.S. later this summer with prices beginning from US$49,500 (€38,900).

The skinny on the third generation of the Boxster is that it's longer and wider, but at the same time lighter than the outgoing model, thanks to the new aluminum body and revised chassis, while it launches with a new 265HP 2.7-liter flat-six for the base model and a tweaked 3.4-liter unit with 315HP for the Boxster S.

A cleaner look with styling cues borrowed from the 918 Spyder Concept and an upgraded interior with more space and a more mature design, along with a fully automatic cloth top complete the highlights.

The following video by serial YouTube uploader Marchettino is therefore nearly 11,000 words of pure Ferrari California.

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 09:59 AM PST

What difference only three years can make: in 2009, U.S. sales had dipped to their lowest point in the last 25 years, while sales in China were increasing exponentially.

Today, the picture is quite different. The U.S. auto market has recovered and according to a report from Autonews, it may be the safest bet for profitable growth. Emerging markets including China, India and Brazil, which until recently looked like the land of opportunity for carmakers, are slowing down.
