U Design: 2013 Cadillac ATS Compact Sports Sedan Rendering Hits the Spot

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 07:59 PM PST

2013 Cadillac ATS for Carscoop
While some of our readers are more handy with the camera (i.e. spy shots) others have a serious knack for designing car like Josh Byrnes that sent us a very well executed rendering of the upcoming 2013 Cadillac ATS, GM's first serious attempt (anyone remember the BLS?) to challenge the BMW 3-Series.

And it couldn't come at a better time as Cadillac will reveal the new ATS in the flesh at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next Monday on January 9.

Josh stated that he designed the rendering based on the details seen on the various camouflaged prototypes as well as the single teaser picture showing the sedan model's profile.

Watch a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO hit Black Ice and Almost Crash in West Virginia Pile Up [NSFW]

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 05:42 PM PST

The first major snowfall of the season brought along bad news for some 30 drivers that were involved a multi-car pileup along the West Virginia Turnpike on Monday.

One of the luckier and perhaps more skilled drivers in a modded Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII captured some of the accidents on his dashboard camera when his car stepped on black ice and almost lost complete control of the AWD model - at which point, he repeatedly makes use the "F" word, hence the NSFW warning.

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 04:01 PM PST

A large number of businesses have closed in the past few years due to the global economic crisis. The paradox is when someone decides to close shop even though the cash keeps coming in and the company has already started expanding.

But that's exactly what happened to San Francisco-based luxury car sharing company HiGear after repeated thefts made its owners realize that they couldn't prevent criminals with falsified credentials from stealing the cars!

In less than 24 hours from now, India's DC Design will drop the curtains and turn the lights on a new mid-engine sports car called the Avanti.

DC Design is named after its founder, Dilip Chhabria, a graduate of California's Art Center College of Design who previously worked for General Motors before opening the Mumbai-based company in 1993.

One of the company's most publicized projects –albeit for all the wrong reasons- is the Rolls Royce Coupe, nickname "The Black Ruby" (see here).

Are 2011 Luxury Car Brand Record Sales a Good Sign for the U.S. Economy?

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 02:14 PM PST

Bentley saw its global sales increase by a whopping 30 percent worldwide last year. while Rolls-Royce, helped by the launch of the Ghost, sold 3,500 cars in North America, smashing its 2010 record of 2,711 deliveries.

The first thing that comes to mind is that, in the midst of a recession, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

Bentley's North American president Christopher Georges, however, sees things from a different perspective, in that booming sales of uber-luxurious cars are reflecting a confidence in the economy.

2011 U.S. Sales: Detroit's Big 3 and Koreans Report Strong Gains, Honda and Toyota Feel the Pinch

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 01:35 PM PST

In the year that just ended, some automakers have a lot to be grateful for while others including Japan's biggest car brands would rather forget due to the Tsunami as well as the Thailand floods that significantly hurt their production lines during 2011.

Starting with the American carmakers, General Motors saw its U.S. sales rise 13.7 percent last year to 2,503,820 units. Chevrolet led the way with 1,775,812 units (+13.4%) followed by GMC at 397,986 (+18.8%), Buick at 177,633 (+143%) and Cadillac at 152,389 (+3.7%).

Marchionne’s 6 Million Sales Target for Fiat-Chrysler Deemed "Unrealistic" by Analysts

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 12:01 PM PST

To say that Fiat is in a crisis would probably be the understatement of the (last) year. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Italian group lowered its sales target for 2012 by half a million units, from 2.7 to 2.2 million. Even its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, has admitted that the European car market will drop in 2012.

Yet, the man who masterminded Chrysler's acquisition during the 2009 bailout and merged the two groups into one entity wants them to sell more than six million vehicles a year by 2014. By doing so, he might have set the bar too high.

With the first Bose Edition accounting for close to 30 percent of the pre-facelift Koleos' sales across Europe, it's only reasonable for Renault to carry over the limited edition to the refreshed version of its compact crossover.

The highlight of the 2012 Koles Bose Edition Phase 2 is of course the audio system from Bose that has been tailor made for the Renault model.

Nissan UK's move to shoehorn the GT-R's twin-turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive system into the conceptual Juke-R may have very well opened Pandora's box giving independent tuning firms the confidence and a motive to create their own hi-po versions of the Japanese brand's small crossover.

Fox Marketing just announced that it's working on a new tune for the Nissan Juke that will be introduced in the coming months as part of the celebrations for the company's 12th year of creating custom cars.

Run, Little Red Bimmer, Run! Man Chases his Runaway BMW

Posted: 04 Jan 2012 10:01 AM PST

There's a reason why automakers fit your car with a handbrake. Now, if only certain drivers could actually remember to use it…

On the other hand, if all drivers were diligent enough to use their vehicle's handbrake, we wouldn't have the opportunity to watch this suited up owner of an E46 BMW 3-Series sedan chasing his runaway car (possibly chanting "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there") before it hit a busy road causing some major damage.

You can view the video after the jump.

We all love us some cool sleepers and what a better mechanical wolf in sheepskin than a third generation Toyota Corolla sedan [KE30 series] from the mid-1970s with a completely stock look right up to the rear window shades sporting a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 Nissan engine under its tiny hood.

The ride comes to us from Australia and according to the blokes over at FullBoost, it was created in just four weeks' time. The force-fed VQ30 is linked to a ZX five-speed manual gearbox while the car runs on 14-inch tires.

Cyber-0
As technology creeps its way into our everyday lives, criminals have devised new ways to commit their acts: it's called cyber terrorism, and it's so serious that the U.S. military has even created a Cyber Command.

Experts now warn of a new way of cyber-attacks with an unlikely target: cars and trucks. As they become increasingly laden with high-tech features such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, they are at the same time becoming more vulnerable to electronic attacks.
