Living the MegaLife: A Look at MegaUpload Boss Kim Dotcom's Passion for Cars

Posted: 23 Jan 2012 06:21 PM PST

Fast cars, beautiful women and lots of cash: what else could a man possibly want? Kim Dotcom, aka Kim Schmitz, aka Kimble (a hacker alias inspired by The Fugitive's Dr. Kimball) had it all, but apparently wanted more.

The former hacker was the founder of popular file-sharing website MegaUpload and was worth more than US$200 million. Until last week, that is, when he made headlines all over the world after feds shut down his site and police arrested him in New Zealand.

Dotcom's collection of cars worth some US$6 million, which including two examples of the rare Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM along with a dozen or so other Benzes and a Lamborghini LM002, was to be expected – even with the not-so-subtle "God" and "CEO" vanity license plates.

CSI Marchionne: Poor J.D. Power Scores Means Chrysler Dealers Must Work on Customer Satisfaction

Posted: 23 Jan 2012 03:24 PM PST

Fiat is the brand in the alliance that's in trouble and Chrysler the one blossoming right now having increased its sales by 26 percent in 2011, yet Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is not happy about the latter's performance in J.D. Power's December Sales Satisfaction Index study on customer experience at dealerships.

The recent J.D. Power survey placed Jeep, Ram and Dodge in three of the bottom four places amongst the mainstream brands.

As a result, Sergio Marchionne wants Chrysler Group dealers to rapidly improve their Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) scores if the company is to achieve its sales goals. He said that some dealerships' salespeople weren't acting properly, failing to make follow-up calls or treat customers "with the dignity they deserve".

Fiat has aired a new commercial for its third generation Panda city car in its home market titled "This is the Italy we like", which uses a similar (but not identical) theme to the super successful and ongoing "Imported in Detroit" campaign from its Chrysler partner.

Only this time, the promo film focuses on the Italian origins of the Panda, the latest version of which is produced at the Fiat Group's renewed Pomigliano d'Arco Plant, near Naples, and also calls upon Italians to change the views imposed by others and show the world who they are and what they are capable of creating.

Feds Can’t Install GPS Devices on Cars without Warrant, Says the Supreme Court

Posted: 23 Jan 2012 12:59 PM PST

In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court ruled on Monday that law enforcement agencies cannot attach a global positioning system device to a vehicle without obtaining a warrant first.

The court's ruling dismissed the Justice Department's claim that it did not need to have permission to tack on a GPS to a Jeep Grand Cherokee owned by the wife of Antoine Jones, a Washington, D.C., nightclub owner and suspected drug dealer who has been sentenced to life.

Government agents had indeed obtained a warrant, but installed the device after the 10-day deadline had expired. During the four-week period that they tracked the vehicle, they collected over 2,000 pages of data – and even had to secretly replace the GPS battery when it was parked in Maryland.

Tough Guy Learns a Lesson About Road Rage and Hitting an Old Man

Posted: 23 Jan 2012 09:33 AM PST

We strongly oppose any form of violence on the road or anywhere else, for that matter, but what happens when you actually see someone attacking another person? Obviously, there's not one answer to that question as it all depends on the circumstances and whether or not someone's life is in danger.

In yet another wild incident from Russia that was captured on camera, a middle-age man in a Mercedes-Benz was squabbling with an elderly man in a hatchback.

The talk quickly escalated and the person in the Merc stepped out of the car and began attacking the other driver, initially punching and then kicking him with all his strength.

At that point, a young man in an Audi SUV stopped over and came to the scene and said something to the Mercedes driver who brushed him away. Seconds later the Audi driver runs back with a metal bat in his hand and whacks the tough guy on his legs putting him down. He then rushes to the Mercedes and breaks the mirror and windows before returning to his Audi and driving off!

Toyota Cutting 350 Jobs in Australia Due to Slowing Demand

Posted: 23 Jan 2012 08:05 AM PST

In a rare move for Toyota, the Japanese automaker announced today that it is axing 350 jobs at its Australian plant in Altona, Victoria, due to what the company describes as "unprecedented operating conditions".

The job cuts will affect manufacturing and production workers as well as the firm's management.

Toyota Australia President and CEO, Max Yasuda, said the extremely strong Australian dollar, which has risen to its highest position in six weeks against the US dollar, along with the global economic crisis that saw reduced demand from the local division's main export markets such as the Middle East, are to blame.

Sorry, Didn't See Ya There: Hummer H2 Parks on Top of a Dacia Logan

Posted: 23 Jan 2012 07:17 AM PST

Love it or loath it, who can deny that the Hummer H2 was and to some extent continues to be today an over-the-top status symbol for the rich and famous.

In fact, it's not uncommon for some Hummer owners to the take H2's over-the-top attitude in the…literal sense.

There's not much info on how the H2 driver managed to park the heavy-weight SUV on top of a Dacia Logan other than that the incident took place somewhere in Romania, but the CanCan website that posted these pictures says no one was hurt from the incident.
