SPIED: New Porsche 911 Turbo Pops Into our Radar

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 07:24 PM PST

For the past 38 years, all generations of the 911 include at least one Turbo variant, and the most recent iteration of Porsche's iconic sports car with the internal designation 991 will be no different.

Stuttgart's engineers have been meticulously working on the development of the all-new 911 Turbo for quite some time now and it shouldn't be long before it makes its official appearance.

Like the outgoing 997 Turbo, the top version of the 991 series will feature an all-wheel drive system to keep things civilized, while motivation will once again be provided by a 3.8-liter flat-six with diesel-style variable turbine geometry turbochargers, which should be good for around 520-horses in normal trim and close to 550-ponies in S Turbo flavor.

New BMW X3 Tops while Range Rover Evoque Flops Consumer Reports' Tests

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 05:16 PM PST

Just like a Rotten Tomatoes review can make or break a movie's reputation and its box-office success, Consumer Reports' road tests have the potential to boost a vehicle's sales or in some cases force a an automaker to run back to the drawing board.

The latest batch of vehicles tested by CR include two SUVs that even though different in size, will compete in the premium segment: the second iteration of the BMW X3 and the brand-new challenger in the category, the Range Rover Evoque.

To sum it up, the BMW X3 xDrive28i scored an 80 in CR's road test and received the "Recommended" tag, while the Range Rover Evoque managed a test score of 60 score and was placed near the bottom of its class.

Ferris Bueller is Back in a Mystery Super Bowl Teaser

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 04:33 PM PST

One of the most famous movie scenes from the 1980s is from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" when Bueller's buddy Cameron accidentally pushes his dad's 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California out of the window and goes, "What did I do? What did I do?", and Bueller replies, "You killed the car."

It's been almost 26 years since the movie became a cult hit for an entire generation of teens and 20-somethings, and today, a mystery video appeared on YouTube showing a middle-age Mathew Broderick reprising his role of Ferris Bueller.

Audi Goes all Twilight Style with its New Super Bowl XLVI Ads

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 03:45 PM PST

We got our first taste of Audi's new Super Bowl XLVI with a teaser clip earlier today but now the German company has unlocked the full commercial for our viewing pleasure ahead of the big game on February 5.

We are not sure if Audi is planning more ads as the BMW E28 we saw jumping into a billboard in the preview clip is absent from the 60-second long commercial that revolves around a pack of 20-something vampires who are killed from the new 2013 Audi S7's ultra-bright LED headlamps.

If you want to see Audi's commercial that's heavily inspired from Hollywood teen-flicks, press play on the embed below the break.

'Half Price' Saab Dealer Shutting Down, Publishes Letter Putting Part of the Blame on GM

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 02:35 PM PST

You may remember our Saab post from earlier this week where we asked you if you'd buy 9-3 or 9-5 sedan at half price. Among the deals we listed were several low mileage loaners with a 50 percent discount from the Shaw Saab dealership in Norwell, Massachusetts.

As we learned today from the Saabsunited enthusiast site, the aforementioned dealership is closing shop on February 3 after 44 years as an exclusive Saab seller.

Fred Shaw, the owner, posted a letter on the company's Facebook page where he announces the shut down and outlines his future plans, which include the selling of the real estate to Herb Chambers (the car shop equivalent of Dunkin Donuts in Massachusetts), who will turn it into a Lexus shop.

Nothing unexpected there, but in his letter, Shaw also refers to General Motors and the role it played in the outcome of Saab's failed reorganization efforts. Being an official dealer, Shaw's view on the matter makes for an interesting read. You can check out the letter right after the break.

Volt Probe Fuels Republican Fire, GM CEO Says Company has Become a "Political Punching Bag"

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 12:36 PM PST

The issue of the Chevy Volt's fire risk and the following NHTSA investigation that ended last week after GM modified its hybrid and the federal agency cleared the car, seems to be spreading beyond the automotive realm.

According to Bloomberg News, a report released by the House Oversight and Government Committee Report led by California Republican Representative Darrell Issa poses the question whether the six-month delay in making the fire-risk issue public has anything to do with the government's 32 percent stake in General Motors.

"This unnatural relationship has blurred the lines between the public and private sector as President Obama touts the survival of General Motors as one of the top accomplishments of his administration", read the report. "On a political level, this relationship raises serious questions about whether or not the administration is too heavily invested in the success of GM to be an effective regulator."

Ford Plans to Triple Production of EcoBoost Engines in 2012

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 10:08 AM PST

Downsizing, direct injection and force induction are the way to go for internal combustion gasoline engines to meet the ever-tightening fuel and emissions standards.

Ford has followed this recipe to the letter with its EcoBoost "family of engines and so far it has paid off nicely, recording 127,883 sales in 2011.

The best-selling F-150 pickup truck is the perfect example. In 2010, all units sold in the U.S. were powered by V8 engines. Last year, more than half of F-150 buyers (56 percent, to be precise) downsized to a V6, choosing either the base 305HP 3.7-liter or the 365HP 3.5-liter EcoBoost.

Audi Teases Oddball Super Bowl XLVI Commercial with Tree Climbing Vampires

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 09:42 AM PST

Some Super Bowl commercials hit the spot while others fall flatter than a pancake. We can't say yet in which of the two categories Audi's upcoming Super Bowl XLVI ad will fall into as we only have a short teaser of the 60-second long clip that will run during the first quarter of the big game on Sunday, February 5.

We can say, however, that while we found the scene with the BMW 5-Series E28 jumping into a billboard that reads "The Moose is Loose" interesting, we're not so sure about the overplayed vampires-climbing-trees theme shown towards the end of the commercial.

According to Audi, the ad will revolve around the brand's signature LED headlights as well as the 2013 S7 Sportback. For now, head past the jump to watch the teaser clip.

Ford Mustang Shows Audi R8, Ferrari California and BMW M3 who's the Boss at Hockenheim

Posted: 26 Jan 2012 09:00 AM PST

While not uncommon, it's not actually often that we hear about American sports cars beating European models on their home turf. Case in point, the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca that was featured in the latest issue of German car magazine Sport Auto.

Sport Auto editor Christian Gebhard took the track-orientated Mustang special over to the Hockenheim circuit for a fast lap recording a best time of 1:13.2, which puts it behind the likes of the BMW M5 F10 (1:12.9) but in front of the Audi R8 4.2 FSI (1:13.4), Aston Martin DBS (1:13.5) and Ferrari California (1:13.5).
