Facelifted 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser 5.7 V8 Announced for the U.S.

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 06:49 PM PST

As we anticipated, after the December launch of the updated 2012 Land Cruiser 200 in its home market of Japan, Toyota has announced details on the North American version that will go on sale in the States as a 2013 model later this year.

While Toyota's U.S. arm released photos of the European specification model, the same styling changes apply for the 2013 Land Cruiser that will be sold here and which we will most likely have the chance to see for the first time at next week's Detroit Auto Show.

Beginning with the exterior, the Land Cruiser gains an updated front grille and headlamps with HID low-beams and LED Daytime Running Lights, enlarged front and rear fenders, chrome side moldings, and redesigned outer side mirrors and tail lamps.

Why Playing Chicken with a Tram is a Terrible Idea

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 05:31 PM PST

Who would ever think that a driver could have so many levels of stupidity? For starters, the person behind the wheel of this white van entered an enclosed section of the road reserved only for trams.

Now you'll agree that's a real stupid move in itself, but it gets even worse as the driver then attempts to overtake the tram at the same time that another trolley car is coming on the opposite rails! Do we really need to tell you what happens next?

Video follows after the jump.

It's just that, after Peugeot and Citroen revealed their updated 107 and C1 respectively, it was only a matter of time before Toyota presented the 2012 version of its jointly-developed and built Aygo city car. And the Best-Selling Premium Brand in the U.S. for 2011 is…

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 03:21 PM PST

The one thing we knew for sure after the manufacturing disruptions in Japan caused by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami was that Lexus wasn't going to top the premium segment in the U.S market for the first time in a decade. In fact, we also knew something else, the two contenders to the throne: BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

What we didn't know up until Thursday is which of two brands was going to win, since both were caught in a neck-to-neck sales race. Going into December the gap was so small - less than 1,600 cars- that the win could go either way.

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 10:30 AM PST

Therefore, leaving the Megane as it is would be rather strange, that's why La Regie unveiled today the "Megane Collection 2012" or simply put, the facelifted version of its C-segment model.

GM Announces Fix for Chevrolet Volt to Address Safety Concerns Over Fires

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 09:47 AM PST

As Toyota found out the hard way, when there's a safety issue on hand, no matter how small or unlikely the possibility of something going wrong on a customer's car is, in the long run, it's much better to address the problem before someone gets hurt…

In General Motors' case, the problem has to do with the Chevrolet Volt's battery package as severe-impact lab tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA] resulted in some cars catching fire days or weeks after the crash.

GM's own investigation found that the problem has to do with the protective casing around the battery coolant system as it could be pierced during impact allowing fluid to leak onto a circuit board thus causing an electrical short.

The Detroit-based automaker said it will address the problem by strengthening the structure around the batteries while also adding a sensor in the reservoir of the battery coolant system to monitor coolant levels and a tamper-resistant bracket to the top of the battery coolant reservoir to help prevent potential coolant overfill.

Nitrous Overload Sends Lexus IS 350 Smashing into the Wall

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 09:13 AM PST

Like the say, "with great power comes great responsibility". So when you decide to make use of Nitrous oxide (also referred to simply as NOS) to juice up your engine's performance on the road or on the track, you should be prepared to handle the butt kicking effects.

The owner of this gunmetal grey Lexus IS 350 sedan allegedly gave an overdose of NOS to his six-cylinder engine during a quarter mile drag race with another IS model and the results were disastrous, though the outcome could have been much, much worse if the other car didn't manage to slip away…

Head on past the break to see the video for yourself.

Suzuki Lifts the Covers off New XA ALPHA Small Crossover at New Delhi Auto Show [with Video]

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 08:31 AM PST

We were right to assume that Maruti Suzuki would present an off-road concept at this week's Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi, but the XA ALPHA doesn't appear to preview a replacement for the Jimny 4x4 (or at least not directly) as it leans more towards the crossover segment being based on the platform architecture of the Swift supermini.

Designed in cooperation with Suzuki's Indian partner Maruti, the XA ALPHA borrows several styling cues from the Swift such as the profile window line and the blacked out A-pillars.

The five-door model measures 4 meters in length, which makes it a little bit longer than the current Swift (3,850mm long).

Subaru's latest press release doesn't really add anything as we already knew that the BRZ will come with a 200-horsepower 2.0-liter boxer engine that revs up to 7,400 rpm and will be matched to either a six-speed manual gearbox or automatic transmission.

Being that the Citroën C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo are not only one and the same (minus some subtle styling differences here and there), but also built at the same plant in the Czech Republic, it is to be expected that when one model receives a facelift, the other two will follow suit.
