Jeremy Clarkson's Top 10 Most Controversial Moments

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 05:18 PM PST

No one can claim that Top Gear is unpopular; on the contrary, BBC's televised car show is broadcasted in no less than 170 countries (according to Wikipedia)! It generates a ton of income and of course, its hosts are paid handsomely. To no one's surprise, Jeremy Clarkson has the highest paycheck pocketing a total of £2.14 million (that's a not-too-shabby US$3.27 million) last year.

Making a whole lot of money, even in this unpredictable economy, is admirable, even if it occasionally makes you unpopular. After all, as they say, you can judge a man by his enemies, right?

In this case, it would be hard to do so, as if you throw a stone in any of those 170 countries, there is a good chance it will land on the head of someone Clarkson has enraged with his comments.

Two Very Cool People and a Very Loud Audio System

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 04:20 PM PST

You've surely heard the story before; young people blasting the volume of their vehicle's pimped audio system in or near a residential area to the point that an older neighbor can't help but notice.

The outcome is usually a rude confrontation that can easily escalate to physical violence and/or the police getting involved.

But not this time as the protagonists were surprisingly cool about the whole incident with the young owner of the vehicle sincerely apologizing as soon as he sees the older man approaching the car, and the neighbor, well, let's just say that he left everyone speechless with his attitude.

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 02:37 PM PST

Today, the BMW brand already comprises of two unique sub-brands developed under the M and the "i" monikers for its high-performance and for its electric cars, plug-in hybrids and other alternative-power vehicles respectively.

Suzuki Puts a Teensy-Weensy Boot on the New Swift for India

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 01:08 PM PST

Different markets, different needs and different tastes. While the rest of the world is content with the 3- and 5-door body styles of the Suzuki Swift, in India, the Japanese company along with its local partner Maruti has also been offering a sedan version under the Dzire nameplate (apparently, a "hip" misspelling of the word "desire") since 2008.

The presentation of the latest generation of the Swift hatchback in late 2010 brought the development of a new Swift Dzire, a test drive version of which was caught on camera by a reader of Indianautosblog, a couple of weeks (if not days) before the official launch.

We don't have any official information in our hands yet, but it looks like Suzuki has kept the same wheelbase as the hatch simply extending the rear overhang and adding a tiny boot.

Saab Museum Cars Looking for a New Home – See the Complete Auction List

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 09:33 AM PST

There's a lot of blame going around over the bleak outcome of the efforts to save Saab, but life goes on and so does the liquidation of the Swedish company's assets including the collection of vehicles from its museum, which is located at the brand's headquarters in Trollhättan.

As we learned from the folks over at Saabsunited, Swedish law firm Delphi has posted a list of all the cars from the Saab museum that will soon go up for auction. The news is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.

On one hand, some fans of the brand and collectors alike will have the unique opportunity to bid on production, racing and concept models that otherwise would have never been offered to the public

On the other hand, Saab enthusiasts as well as gearheads would have surely preferred to have all the cars together in a museum where the public can see them.

GM Considers Producing the Cruze and Other Chevy Models in Europe

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 12:02 PM PST

Reclaiming the number one spot as the world's best-selling car manufacturer in 2011 must have been quite satisfying for GM management. Still, there is a blemish in GM's ornament as the company's CEO Dan Akerson admits: its loss-making European operations.

Even though Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne expressed an interest in a possible tie-up with Opel, GM vice chairman Steve Girsky quickly responded that the German carmaker and its British division, Vauxhall, "are not for sale".

Top Gear “Christmas Special” Causes Tension with India, British PM Caught in the Middle

Posted: 16 Jan 2012 07:54 AM PST

It's true that the British have a special sense of humor; self-depreciating, absurd, even surreal at times, and no subject is off-limits. But the thing is that people from different countries and cultures may just not get it, or in certain cases, even be offended.

It's that sense of humor which is a trademark of famous car TV show Top Gear that has often landed them in hot waters. This time, though, their "Christmas Special" episode almost caused an international diplomatic incident between Great Britain and India.

Last July, Top Gear producer Chris Hale wrote a letter to the Indian High Commission in London, asking for permission to film an episode in the country.

"Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will travel across India in three cars filming a light-hearted road trip… there will be spontaneous interaction between the presenters and their environment, and potentially people they meet along the way," Hale wrote in the letter.
