New Scoop Photos Shed More Light on 2012 BMW 3-Series Sedan Posted: 07 Jun 2011 05:59 PM PDT With the new 1-Series out in the open, it is time for us now to take a look at the next car in line for replacement in BMW's range, the 3-Series sedan with these freshly shot spy photos. As we're nearing closer to the launch, BMW continues to peel away the disguise with the latest F30 prototype having shed not only plenty of swirly decals but also the fake front and rear end additions giving us a better look of the car's styling. BMW hasn't really messed around with the design of the 3-Series since the introduction of the E36 in 1990, and the new F30 isn't an exception to the rule. The styling of the F30 is a clear evolution of the current E90 3-Series borrowing certain elements from the 5-Series such as the stronger belt-line combined with a lower and more aggressive front end with larger double kidneys. Previous spy shots reveal that BMW will follow a similar formula with the 3-Series' interior. Read more » |
Pagani Designer Envisions an Electric Sports Coupe Posted: 07 Jun 2011 04:48 PM PDT Now this is more like it. Antonio Bruno's Electrodynamics Concept is an acrylic-bodied electric sports car design study for the 21st century. To me it sort of looks like an unlikely crossbreed between a Lamborghini Espada and a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, or maybe a next-generation Tesla Motors model. Bruno describes it thusly: "The absence of a brand reference has contributed to the free forms and is totally devoted to aerodynamic influences and perceptions typical of product design. The upper dome is formed from a tinted acrylic component that stretches up to the front bumper, where it could hide the additional headlights." Read more » |

U.S. Government Focusing in on Web Gadgets that Distract Drivers Posted: 07 Jun 2011 01:05 PM PDT We are all living in an age of networked information. Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, smartphones and public internet access are making the world smaller every day. Unfortunately, in some instances all this information can distract us from the important things, such as focusing on driving. And no one agrees with this more than U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood: "We know people are hooked on cellphones and texting devices. But there's absolutely no reason for any person to download their Facebook into the car. It's not necessary. " Read more » |

And the Unluckiest Car in Britain is…the Honda FR-V Posted: 07 Jun 2011 11:50 AM PDT Well, the question and the answer have already been given to you in the title, so let us elaborate for a moment. A UK-based car insurance price comparison website called "Confused.com" conducted a study to find out which vehicle make and model had the highest accident rates in Britain in the last five years. The company notes that the statistics you're about to read show only a snapshot of accident-related claims made by owners of a particular make and model of vehicle. According to the results, the Honda FR-V, a compact 6-seater minivan marketed in Europe and Japan from 2004 to 2009, topped the list with 2,529 owners of the model making 466 accident claims in the past five years, which is equal to a claim rate of 18.4 per cent, or close to one in five. Embarrassing Motorcycle Flip-Fail Caught on Tape Posted: 07 Jun 2011 10:20 AM PDT As this video proves, automobile drivers are not alone when it comes to dim-witted mistakes on the road. And yes, as you may have already guessed, that's a recipe for disaster. Fortunately for the bike driver, the mishap occurred at low speeds and from the looks of it, he wasn't hurt - at least not physically because his ego does seem a bit bruised… Click past the break to watch the amusing video clip. Posted: 07 Jun 2011 09:32 AM PDT In a rather odd move, General Motors has gone ahead and revealed the police patrol version of the 2012 model year Chevrolet Impala before we get to know the full details on the retail model. The Detroit automaker stated that the 2012 Impala for the public will go on sale this month and will get the additional horsepower and fuel economy of the police derivative. For those of you wondering how it's done, the tech-savvy crew over at Electricpig were invited to Redmond, Seattle by the creator of the Forza Motorsport gaming series, Turn 10 Studios, to witness the recording of a previous generation Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
