Eric Leong’s Radical 2015 Toyota Prius Design Study

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 07:25 PM PDT

As part of last year's Toyota Design Internship, industrial designer Eric Leong produced this interesting take on the third-generation Toyota Prius for the year 2015.

By acknowledging that wind resistance is one of the key factors in improving vehicle economy, Leong's Prius III hybrid is extremely slippery. Described by the designer as moving, "through [the wind], not into it", this design study channels air over its surface through a series of vanes.

If there was ever a prize for the crappiest application of decorative ornaments and decals of any sort on an automobile, this here Porsche Cayenne would win the contest hands down. I mean, just look at it…

We first showed you the Porsche Cayenne with the Ontario license plates last Friday, but today, Carscoop reader Jonathan Fernando spotted the car parked outside –wait for the drum roll- a….Dollarama store and didn't waste the opportunity to snap a few photos.

Shhh….Nissan’s Radical Leaf Nismo RC Coupe Racecar Filmed on the Track

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 04:04 PM PDT

If there is one thing we don't like about electric sports cars (we emphasize 'sports') in general, it is the lack of engine sounds, you know, the banging thunder of a brawny V8 or the symphony of a finely tuned straight six. Sure EVs may be just as fast as any gasoline-powered model but when it comes to aural pleasure, you might as well be listening to your electric shaver…

Take a look at the following video of the Nissan Leaf Nismo RC racer, which was filmed during a test session, after the break and you'll see what we mean. And if you disagree, feel free to voice your opinion in the comments section.

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 01:37 PM PDT

Earlier today, we told you about Ford's decision to increase production of the Focus-based C-MAX minivan at its Valencia plant in Spain to meet strong demand from European customers. We also noted that Ford was planning to launch the longer and more spacious 7-seat Grand C-MAX in the United States.

Well, it turns out there's been a slight change of plans as the Detroit automaker just announced it won't be bringing the petrol-powered Grand C-MAX to the U.S. after all. But not all is lost for fans of the Focus-based minivan as Ford will focus on the five-seat C-MAX in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid formats. The C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid vehicles were previewed at the Detroit Auto Show this past January.

Journalist Spies Next Renault Twingo RS at French Firm’s Test Center

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 12:20 PM PDT

During a presentation at Renault's facilities in France, a foreign journalist attending the event managed to slip away from the crowd and snap a single photo of a small car testing on the company's proving grounds before falling into the unloving arms of the security team.

The journalist-turned-into-spy photographer said the bagged prototype looked similar in size to the current Twingo city car. He added that the small hatchback model featured several sporty elements such as the bumper designs, wide tires and tall alloy wheels, which lead him to believe that it's a prototype for the new Twingo RenaultSport (RS) or the Gordini RS, with the differences between the versions being purely aesthetic.

Call of Duty: Turkish Police Officer Hangs on Hood of Drunk Driver’s Car

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 11:36 AM PDT

There are police officers and there are police officers. And if anything else, this officer of the law from Turkey that you're about to see in the surveillance camera footage below shows that some people take their job far more seriously than others.

It all started when the man in blue attempted to stop a silver car but the driver ignored him and tried to take off but not before the cop threw himself onto the bonnet. The determined cop clasped onto the windscreen wipers for a 3 kilometer-long (about 2 miles) wild ride until the driver, who turned out to be intoxicated, hit another car and came to a stop. Fortunately, the officer suffered only minor injuries. Watch the footage after the jump.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupé Drifts Through Walls in new Canadian Ad

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:50 AM PDT

BMW of Canada has published a new and rather entertaining promotional film on the firm's new limited production 1-Series M Coupe. The video shows the Bavarian automaker's sports car pushing its 335-horsepower twin-turbocharged inline-six to the limit and burning plenty of rubber in doing so while passing sideways through set of imaginary walls on the road.

Truth to be said though, BMW's advertising agency could have skimped on the somewhat farcical CGI (computer-generated images) cement walls and still have an engaging commercial in its hands. Take a look at it in the video after the jump and tell us what you think in the comments section below.

GM Denies Reports Claiming Plans to Sell its Opel Brand Possibly to the Chinese or VW Group

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 07:39 AM PDT

German car magazine Auto Bild and weekly Der Spiegel reported Thursday that General Motors is once again considering the sale of its Opel and Vauxhall units. The reports were dismissed as pure speculation by the Detroit automaker as well as a German state with an Opel factory, which called the news "nonsense".

According to the news reports, GM allegedly was no longer in need of Opel's know-how in manufacturing small cars as well as low emission and fuel efficient powerplants and that it could replace the German brand with its South Korean GM Chevrolet unit, formerly known as Daewoo.
