Aston Martin: How Recycled Platforms and Eight-Year-Old Tech Could be the Brand’s Downfall Posted: 11 Aug 2011 04:35 PM PDT Unlike Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce – who are owned by highly successful mainstream brands Volkswagen, Audi, Fiat and BMW respectively – specialist manufacturers such as Aston Martin have a hard time in the market. Whereas a company like Mercedes-Benz can afford to spend €5 billion (US$7.1 billion) in one year on research and development, the Gaydon-based manufacturer of performance/luxury coupes is planning its next models on the eight-year-old platform that first underpinned the DB9 coupe in 2003! U Spy: Lancia Grand Voyager CRD Snagged on Michigan Highway Posted: 11 Aug 2011 03:49 PM PDT Remember the rebadged Chrysler Town & Country minivan that debuted at the Geneva auto show in March this year as the Lancia Grand Voyager? How can we forget, we hear some of you cry out loud.
Well, the…Italian Grand Voyager may have yet to appear on the firm's official webpage and Fiat's press division may still have that single image showing a Town & Country photoshoped with Lancia badges (no, really, 6 months after we reported it, the Italians continue to display the same digitally manipulated picture…), but the minivan has made its appearance on the road. But not where you'd expect. The Lancia Grand Voyager was spotted by Carscoop reader Molly S. travelling alongside a light-blue Chrysler minivan on the M-14 highway in eastern Michigan. Read more » |

“Boiler Room” Director Involved in Formula 1 Movie Project Posted: 11 Aug 2011 01:25 PM PDT Movies about car racing are not a flourishing genre. Despite some sporadic successes such as the 1971 "Le Mans" film with Steve McQueen and the gorgeous Porsche 917, we all remember "Driven" starring Sylvester Stallone sitting behind the wheel of an Indycar, in plain clothes, at night, chasing his teammate through traffic after stealing the cars from a gala. What a nightmare… In recent years, there's been a lot of talk about making a movie about Formula 1. And mostly about one of its most tragic heroes: Ayrton Senna. Hollywood hotshots such as directors Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard and actor Tobie "Spiderman" Maguire were, at one point or another, linked to the film. However, Bernie Ecclestone's financial demands, among other things, didn't let any project come to fruition. Read more » |

Mom Takes her First Ride in Flame Throwing, 1,250 WHP Lamborghini Gallaro Posted: 11 Aug 2011 12:28 PM PDT Truth to be said, most people wouldn't feel comfortable sitting on the passenger side of a speeding Lamborghini Gallardo, let alone, a twin-turbocharged version upgraded by Underground Racing to deliver a whopping 1,250 wheel-horsepower. But even though mom's reactions to her son's twitchy right foot doesn't seem overboard or unjustified, it's worth a look in the video after the jump. Read more » |
As Nano Sales Fall, Tata Motors Invests on Jaguar and Land Rover to Raise Profits Posted: 11 Aug 2011 11:45 AM PDT When Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in 2008, it had great plans for both brands. Driven by sales of the sub-$5,000 Nano, the Indian conglomerate would have enough funds to secure their future. Now it seems that the tables have turned, and it's the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) unit that may have to bring in the profits. Read more » |
Video: Chevrolet Camaro Side Airbags Deploy While Drifting and Without an Accident! Posted: 11 Aug 2011 11:18 AM PDT Airbags are made to deploy when a vehicle is involved in a crash, usually when the car is travelling over a certain speed and it comes to abrupt halt be that because it collided or was hit by another vehicle, and in some cases, due to a roll over. That said, airbags are not meant to open without an accident of some sort. At least that's the theory because according to this Youtube video, the side airbags on this latest generation Chevrolet Camaro deployed without an accident while driver Paul Beiswenger was drifting the car at the Milan Dragway in Michigan. BMW's i3 EV Hatch and i8 Hybrid Sports Coupe Live and in the Flesh Posted: 11 Aug 2011 10:33 AM PDT We got our first look at BMW's eco-friendly i3 and i8 concept cars during a presentation in Germany at the end of July, but while the Bavarian firm released a bevy of videos showing off the two cars and their technological highlights, all films were the product of computer manipulation. Lucky for us (and you), a Youtube user was in the right place at the right time filming both the BMW i3 pure electric hatchback and the i8 hybrid sports coupe during a photo shoot in Chicago. Niki Lauda Bashes Michael Schumacher, Says he Should be Honest and Retire Posted: 11 Aug 2011 09:46 AM PDT When Michael Schumacher announced, at the end of 2009, his return to Formula 1 racing with Mercedes after a three-year absence, many people were surprised.
