Infiniti Shows All-New JX 7-Seater Crossover Concept at Pebble Beach Posted: 18 Aug 2011 06:27 PM PDT It's been a long, slow tease, with plenty of cropped photos, but today, Infiniti unveiled the JX Concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event in Monterey, California. Even though Infiniti calls it a concept, what you see here is more or less what you'll get when the production version of the JX makes the trip to the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. On the outside, the JX shares several design cues with the firm's Essence concept such as the headlamp and grille design as well as the crescent-cut D-pillar, but overall, Infiniti's foray into the 7-seater crossover segment won't win any awards for its looks. 2013 Lexus GS Officially Unveiled at the Pebble Beach Festival [47 Photos + Video] Posted: 18 Aug 2011 05:19 PM PDT Time is up for Lexus to pull the wraps off the third-generation GS luxury sedan that made its first outing today at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California. Based on the LF-Gh concept we saw in New York, the new GS features much bolder lines that its predecessor. Key highlights include a prominent trapezoidal grille that the company says will be a trademark of all future models, deep-set headlamps with L-shaped LED daytime running lights and an aerodynamic body that brings to mind the smaller IS. Louisiana Scientists Turn Alligator Fat Waste to Biodiesel Posted: 18 Aug 2011 05:08 PM PDT Scientists are constantly warning us that oil supplies are running out, therefore we should look for alternative sources of energy. Electric vehicles are all good and well, but they require a completely new infrastructure on a global basis, something that's not likely to happen very soon. Moreover, they are expensive and have many limitations – but that is a different story. So far, the prime replacement of fossil fuel is biodiesel oil, which is made of soybeans. The problem is soybeans are also used for human and animal consumption. |
Abstract Thoughts: Is Your Car Better than Dad's? Posted: 18 Aug 2011 02:54 PM PDT Recently, I stumbled upon an article on Popular Mechanics with a list of 23 reasons why today's cars are better than your parent's. The gist is that today's cars are safer, smarter, cleaner, more comfortable and require less maintenance than the cars your parents would have driven. This is undoubtedly true.
Today's cars have antilock brakes, electronic stability control, satellite navigation, clear-coat enamel paint and engine immobilisers. We also have climate control air conditioning, electric everything, in-car stereos and many other things that were once cost options; a modern small car has much of the same equipment that luxury cars thirty years ago had. 2012 Toyota Tacoma Facelift Revealed in Leaked Promotional Clip? Posted: 18 Aug 2011 02:11 PM PDT While Toyota may be taking its time to release information on its 2012 portfolio in the United States, pictures and video of its upcoming models are already making the internet rounds. Following the early reveal of the 2012 Camry, the folks over at the PickupTrucks website found an allegedly official promotional video on Vimeo featuring the 2012 Tacoma facelift. The clip was removed but not before the website took a few shots of Toyota's subtly refreshed pickup truck. If this is indeed the 2012 Tacoma, then the changes on the outside are minimal and mostly concentrated up front with the newly shaped chrome grille and black trim on the bumper. Read more » |
Fiat Abarth Girls Dance it Off on Camera Posted: 18 Aug 2011 01:36 PM PDT Leave it to the Fiat Group to turn a vehicle presentation into a girls gone wild part – not that we are complaining, mind you… We don't have any information regarding the clip that popped up on Youtube other than a vague description that says "FIAT girls dancing at FIAT Grande Punto ABARTH S2000 LIVE!", so if you happen to know more, just leave us a comment below. And if you're looking for something a bit more spicier from the Italians, you may want to check out this video from the Fiat Group presentation at the 2006 Poland Auto Motor Show. Read more » |
Opel Working on Several New Models Including Calibra Coupe and Small SUV Posted: 18 Aug 2011 12:47 PM PDT General Motors Europe president Nick Reilly has confirmed several new models for the group's joint Opel and Vauxhall division, including a new small city car. Reilly recently told Autonews that the so-called "Junior" Opel will be positioned as a premium model targeting "people who care about the status of their car, what it can do, what features and telematics it has". Reilly says his previous experience as the CEO of GM Daewoo in Korea has been helpful in developing the small Opel: "We learned quite a lot in Korea, where they actually make money in small cars". His intention is to make the "Junior" a profitable project for Opel. Read more » |
Video: Tesla Model S and Roadster Silently Race Each Other on Desert Road Posted: 18 Aug 2011 12:01 PM PDT It's not the first time we've shown you the Model S, Tesla's 5-passenger-plus-2-children electric 5-Series rival on video, even though deliveries aren't expected to begin before 2012. And the Roadster has gotten its fair share of coverage too. But seeing the two Tesla models silently drive side by side down an empty desert road is a good enough excuse to show the two EV sports cars again – especially the gorgeous Model S. You can watch the video after the jump, but please don't complain about the music: in this case it's entirely appropriate since you wouldn't hear anything anyway. Read more » |
2011 SEMA: What is this Oddball Chevy Creation? Posted: 18 Aug 2011 11:44 AM PDT This year's edition of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas is a still long way off but some tuners have already begun teasing their custom creations This strange photo of an unnamed project car appeared on a dedicated SEMA show page on Facebook. There are no details about the build other than it will appear at the show in first week of November. While it's evident that the five-door hatchback model sports the face of the Chevrolet Cruze, we're not sure about the body (and no, it's not the Cruze hatch). If you have any ideas or thoughts, skip the jump and head over to our comments section to share. |
Will the Jeep-based SUV Turn Maserati into the New Porsche? Posted: 18 Aug 2011 11:54 AM PDT Sources from within the company confirmed today that the Italian company will indeed launch a Jeep Grand Cherokee-based SUV concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. What's more, the same insiders said that the luxury SUV will be manufactured not at Modena, like all other sports cars bearing the trident badge, but at Chrysler's Jefferson North plant in Detroit. SPIED: Is Jaguar Readying a Hardcore XFR-S? Posted: 18 Aug 2011 10:16 AM PDT With the recent presentation of the redesigned for the 2012 model year XF and XFR, you would think that Jaguar was done with this generation of its premium offering in the mid-size sedan segment. However, that doesn't seem to be the case as our scoop photographers captured what at first appears to be a "normal" XFR but a closer looks reveals that this factory prototype is wearing the dark alloy rims of the XKR-S while we can also see a roll cage inside (apparently used for the safety of the test drivers). F1: Schumacher Denies Retirement Rumors, “Will Certainly Race Next Year Whether You Like it or Not” Posted: 18 Aug 2011 09:08 AM PDT There's been a lot of talk recently about Michael Schumacher's return to F1 and whether it was the right decision or not. Nikki Lauda even called for him to resign saying, "if he wants to be honest with himself". Recently, rumors started circulating in the Italian press that the seven-times world champion is seriously considering retiring, this time for good, after being beaten by his much younger team mate, Nico Rosberg. SCOOP: 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Facelift Gains Styling Tweaks and More Powerful V6 Posted: 18 Aug 2011 08:38 AM PDT Hyundai's well-received first attempt in the rear-wheel drive sports car segment, the Genesis Coupe, is up for a mid-life nip and tuck, which will be more than skin deep. Our spies nabbed a camouflaged prototype of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe testing in and around the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. The first thing that caught our attention on the outside is the boot lid but we're not certain if Hyundai has redesigned the rear end or is simply trying out a new spoiler. Read more » |
