The Classic Eldorados that Inspired the Creation of the Cadillac Ciel Concept

Posted: 12 Nov 2011 02:59 PM PST

Cadillac has seen some dramatic ups and downs (mostly the latter…) over the past few decades but General Motors' flagship brand seems to be heading down the right road in the 21st century, slowly but steadily improving its product portfolio.

And it's not just the upcoming ATS small sedan, the XTS full-size saloon or the pure-electric ELR coupe that make the future look very promising; it's also Cadillac's most recent conceptual model, the Ciel, which drew a lot of attention at the Pebble Beach classic car show in August.

A modern day Eldorado convertible with four doors measuring a lengthy 203.7-inch (5,174mm) from nose to tail isn't exactly a recipe to rev up enthusiasts, yet Cadillac's designers somehow pulled it off and the Ciel proved to be a hit with most show-goers, not to mention readers as well.

Greece Turns to Iran for Oil as Fears of Default Make Western Suppliers Unwilling to Trade

Posted: 12 Nov 2011 11:00 AM PST

Greece has been making the world headlines for quite some time now – and for all the wrong reasons. After years of excessive borrowing, its economy eventually went down and the country's government was forced to turn to the European Union and the International Monetary Fund for help.

Help was indeed provided, but at a price: severe cuts were required and the Greek government, despite initial promises, stalled for a long period.

This caused fears of a Greek default that could spread to other European countries with vulnerable economies such as Italy and Spain, threatening the euro and even the stability of the European Union itself.

Consequently, many suppliers have practically stopped dealing with Greece. "Companies like us cannot deal with them. There is too much risk. Maybe independent traders are more geared up for that", an unnamed trader with a major international oil company told Reuters.

A 600HP Tongue Twister: SchwabenFolia's Weismann Roadster MF5 V10 Black Bat

Posted: 12 Nov 2011 07:24 AM PST

We'll forgive you if you've never heard about SchwabenFolia and Dähler, its co-partner in the creation of the Wiesmann Roadster MF5 V10 Black Bat.

SchwabenFolia is a car wrapping company based in Korntal-Münchingen, Germany, and is responsible for the Roadster MF5's dark looks.

The company dressed the outer body panels as well as bits from the interior plus the door sills, trunk and engine room in a matte black skin. To showcase its craftsmanship, SchwabenFolia even wrapped the 20-inch BBS alloy wheels in the same shade.

A foiled "imprint" of the Nürburgring's northern loop on the driver's side and the chrome emblems round out the makeover.

MIT Study Suggests “Smart” Safety Systems May Lead to "Stupid" Accidents

Posted: 12 Nov 2011 06:33 AM PST

Active safety systems are becoming more and more common in modern cars. Features such as lane departure warning or blind spot information systems are meant to let the car's onboard "clever" electronics help you avoid dangerous situations – and in extreme cases, take over automatically apply full force to the braking system.

However, a recent study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on driver distraction suggests that there can be too much of a good thing, even in safety-related systems.
