Posted: 16 Nov 2011 07:57 PM PST

The highly anticipated Subaru BRZ Concept STI made its debut today at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show in order to prepare us for the production model that is scheduled to appear at the Tokyo Motor Show in Japan on November 30 before it goes on sale worldwide next spring.

The BRZ is the outcome of the team-up between Toyota and Subaru, and it's a sister model to the Toyota FT-86 and the Scion FR-S rear-wheel drive coupes, and as such, all three models share the same platform and mechanical hardware including the Subaru-sourced 2.0-liter flat-four engine upgraded with Toyota's D-4S direct injection technology.

New Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder Brings Rear-Wheel Drive to Drop-Top Model

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 07:22 PM PST

Once upon a time, sports cars and rear-wheel drive layouts were synonymous terms, but not anymore - especially when it comes to the Volkswagen Group that has essentially built an empire of all sorts of front- and all-wheel drive models.

But every so often, even the VW Group succumbs to the allure of rear-wheel drive. Today, its Lamborghini brand introduced the new Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder, which combines the open-top body style with rear wheel drive.

That's More Like it: Naughty 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth Ad [Video]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 06:53 PM PST

After seeing the lukewarm response to its U.S. market commercials on the 500C starring Jennifer Lopez (…or was that the other way around?), Fiat's marketing division put its act together and presented a more appropriate ad for its 2012 500 Abarth, which was unveiled today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The new advertisement conveys the message that the 160-horsepower 500 Abarth is a naughty little Italian city car in a cheeky but tasteful way. The 1-minute long commercial concludes with the female voiceover, "The Fiat 500 Abarth. You'll never forget the first time you see one".

You can take a look at the clip for yourself in the video after break.

2013 Cadillac XTS in the Flesh and on the Move in New Videos

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 05:48 PM PST

The big news for Cadillac today was the presentation of the all-new XTS full-size luxury sedan, and we've got some fresh pictures as well as two new videos including one that shows the car on the road (admittedly, not in the best quality) to share with you.

There's been some confusion about which segment the XTS belongs to since it will replace two models in Cadillac's range, the rear-/all-wheel drive STS and the front-wheel drive only DTS.

While the new XTS is Cadillac's largest sedan and as such, should be the brand's flagship saloon model, it does not target the likes of the BMW 7 Series nor the Mercedes S-Class.

Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 Altechno Clobbers Bugatti Veyron on the Drag Strip [Video]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 05:06 PM PST

The 1,001-horsepower Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is considered to be the world's fastest production car with an eye-boggling top speed of 253.1 mph [407km/h]. It's also one of the most expensive with a base price of a little over $2.1 million.

But is that enough to beat a wildly modified Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 Altechno that pushes out a monstrous output of 900-horsepower on a quarter-mile duel? Unfortunately for the owner of the Bugatti, the answer to that question is no.

You can watch the drag race in the video after the break.

Officially, it's just a concept, but the wording on VW's press release hints at a production version of the Beetle R that was first shown at the 64th IAA in Frankfurt before it made its North American debut today at the LA Auto Show.

New 2012 Honda CR-V Breaks Cover at Los Angeles Auto Show [73 Photos]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 03:58 PM PST

Making its world premiere in final production guise at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show today is the all-new, fourth generation Honda CR-V that will first go on sale in the States as a 2012 model on December 15th, and the rest of the world next year.

Honda had prepared us for the new CR-V's evolutionary looks through a thinly disguised concept model that was displayed at the Orange County International Auto Show in California in late September.

The transition from concept to production reality didn't bring many changes other than a less aggressive choice of wheels, a matte instead of a glossy finish for the plastic cladding on the body, and clear graphics on the headlamps and tail lamps.

The new 2012 CR-V looks sleeker than its predecessor and has a more aggressive stance thanks in part to the new roofline and the Volvo-esque rear end design.

At 178.5-in. long, 71.6-in. wide and 65.1-in. tall with a 103.1-in. wheelbase, the new model retains the same width and wheelbase measurements with the previous CR-V, but is 0.8-in. shorter in overall length and 1-in. in height.

LA Auto Show: New Porsche Panamera GTS with AWD and 430HP [41 Photos]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 12:56 PM PST

The new Porsche Panamera GTS made its world debut today in Los Angeles. The latest addition to the Panamera family, which slots between the S/4S and Turbo models, is based on the all-wheel drive 4S adding more power, upgraded brakes and chassis along with plenty of styling tweaks inside and out.

Power comes from a mildly tuned version of the naturally-aspirated 4.8-liter V8 engine found in the S/4S that gains 30HP and 15 lb-ft pushing the total to 430-horses at 6,700 rpm and 384 lb. ft of peak torque.

The GTS comes fitted with the Sport Chrono package and Porsche's 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard. The combination enables the Panamera GTS to complete the 0-60 mph [96 km/h] in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 178mph [286 km/h].

To further improve handling, the Stuttgart firm's engineers added a lowered air suspension and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system. Porsche says that with the suspension set at "Normal," the GTS sits an 10mm lower than any other Panamera model.

Infiniti Introduces New IPL G Convertible at 2011 LA Auto Show

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 12:06 PM PST

Being a luxury carmaker is all fine and dandy but if don't have your own performance division, you haven't really made it to the major league. BMW has the M Division, Mercedes-Benz has AMG, Audi its RS and S lines while even luxury-oriented Lexus has the "F Sport" range to show for itself.

Infiniti's answer to all these acronyms is IPL, which stands for Infiniti Performance Line. With just one model though, the IPL G Coupe, it's not really a line, is it? Therefore, the Japanese carmaker chose the 2011 LA Auto Show to unveil its second production IPL model based on the G37 Convertible.

2012 Hyundai Azera Sedan to go up Against Buick LaCrosse and Lexus ES [with Video + 50 Photos]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 08:21 PM PST

Proving that you don't necessarily need to start off with a strong brand name to succeed in today's crowded car market, Hyundai and its Kia affiliate are building their awareness among consumers with a constant stream of either brand new entries or updated vehicles that are hugely improved over their predecessors.

At the 2011 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show, Hyundai is lifting the covers of the new generation of its Azera sedan that will go on sale shortly as a 2012 model.

As Hyundai pointed out, the 2012 Azera is the seventh new vehicle in Hyundai's 24/7 version 2.0 product initiative, which means seven new models every 24 months, and comes on the heels of the all-new Tucson, Sonata, Equus, Elantra, Accent and Veloster.

The Azera is the North American version of the Korean market Grandeur that was launched in the beginning of the year.

According to Hyundai, the Azera competes against the likes of the Ford Taurus, Nissan Maxima, Buick LaCrosse, Toyota Avalon and even the Acura TL and Lexus ES350.

2013 Infiniti JX: New Luxury Crossover gets 7-Seats, 265HP V6 and a Starting Price of $41,400*

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 11:33 AM PST

We had the chance to see Infiniti's new 7-seater crossover model in showcar trim at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California this past August, but now it's time for the final production version of the JX to make its world premiere at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

To answer your first question, we didn't find any styling changes whatsoever from concept to production, but that shouldn't come as a surprise as there was nothing really conceptual about the JX study in the first place.

There are some interesting styling cues to be found on the JX such as the crescent-cut D-pillar and the swoopy belt line, but it's hardly a looker in our books.

Hop inside and you'll find the familiar Infiniti styling sprinkled with plenty of wood accents and leather trim as well as a variety of gizmos such as a 15-speaker Bose Cabin Surround sound system with Acoustic Waveguide bass technology and the Infiniti Connection telematics system.

Cuckoo Job? Toyota Station Wagon Caught with Oversized Bird Nest on Roof

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 10:07 AM PST

We're not ready to call this one a cuckoo job just yet as it may very well turn out to be one of those publicity stunts seeking to get some viral attention on Youtube, but even so, strapping a huge bird nest-like wooden fixture on the roof top of a Toyota station wagon with yellow caution tapes doesn't seem like a very safe idea…

You can watch the short clip right after the jump.

New 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth Hits U.S. Shores with 160HP 1.4L Turbo Engine [36 Photos]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 07:16 AM PST

After the U.S. launch of the regular Fiat 500 and the canvas-top 500C, it's time for the Italian automaker to introduce the sportier version of its retro-styled mini, the new 2012 500 Abarth that makes its debut today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The good news is that Fiat opted to offer the 500 Abarth with a more powerful engine than the standard 135-horsepower four-banger that's available on the basic European model.

In the States, the hot 500 gets a turbocharged, twin intercooled and MultiAir-equipped 1.4-liter engine that produces a more robust 160-horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 170 lb-ft (230Nm) of peak torque between 2,500 and 4,000 rpm.

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 08:10 PM PST

Out goes the old in comes the new Say hello to Ford's brand new compact crossover, the Escape, which will be a global model replacing among others, the Kuga in Europe.

The new Escape is definitely more modern than the best-selling model it replaces, something that Ford's design boss, Martin Smith, is keen to stress out: "The Escape's athletic good looks are no accident", he says, adding that "we wanted to create the impression of an athlete like a runner or swimmer in the new body – right down to the defined muscles that convey movement and energy."

The new Escape measures 178.1 inches (4.52 m) in length, 72.4 inches (1.84 m) in width, 66.3 inches (1.68 m) in height, while it rides on a 105.9 inch (2.69 m) wheelbase.

In the U.S. market, it will be available in both front- and four-wheel layouts with three gasoline engines, all of which are combined with a six-speed automatic transmission.
