Honda Launches 2012 CR-V Crossover in Japan, gets 2.0L and 24L Engines [50 Photos]

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 07:01 PM PST

Japanese buyers will be the first to receive the all-new fourth-generation CR-V, as Honda announced today that the 2012 CR-V would go on sale at dealerships across the country on December 2, approximately two week ahead of its U.S. launch that's slated for December 15 and almost a year before it reaches European showrooms next fall.

The new CR-V, which we first saw at the Los Angeles Auto Show earlier this month, will be offered in Japan in two flavors, the 20G and the 24G.

New Nissan Juke Nismo Concept Sports up for the Tokyo Motor Show

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 06:13 PM PST

Nissan just couldn't wait for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday to share the news on a fresh concept version of its Juke crossover prepared by its in-house motorsports and performance division, Nismo.

Unlike the extremely radical Juke-R project, which features the inner works of the GT-R sports car including its twin-turbo V6 engine and advanced all-wheel drive system, the Juke Nismo concept is a very realistic study for a down-to-earth sporty variant of the regular model.

New Subaru BRZ Sports Coupe: First Official Pictures of Production Model

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 05:37 PM PST

After the unveiling of the Toyota 86 (GT 86 in Europe) on Saturday, it's time for Subaru to take center stage with the presentation of its version of the jointly developed rear-wheel drive sports coupe in production guise.

The new BRZ was revealed today less than two weeks after Subaru exhibited the STI-badged concept model at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and just before the sports coupe makes its first public outing under the spotlight at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday, November 30.

To the surprise of no one, the production BRZ loses the concept's neat aero-kit with the large rear wing and carbon-fiber parts, but no need to worry as it's almost certain that Subaru's STI division will offer either the same or similar components as an option in due time.

Even though we knew from day one that the Subaru BRZ, the Toyota 86 and the upcoming Scion FR-S were all jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, we had some hope that the cars might differ in appearance and flavor As you can see for yourself, this never happened – at least with the BRZ and the 86.

New Study Reveals the Most Profitable Vehicles in the USA

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 04:19 PM PST

All carmakers want their vehicles to sell in big numbers. And they make a big fuss out of it when they succeed, especially when they top the sales charts in their respective segments. However, high sale numbers don't necessarily translate to high profits, especially with the discounts that have become a common practice to draw customers to dealerships.

A recent study conducted by Max Warburton of Bernstein Research, a market trends and analysis firm, reveals which models sold in the U.S. are the most profitable for automakers.

Despite being blamed for almost anything, from the greenhouse effect to the costly bailout a couple of years ago, the study shows that Detroit's Big Three light-truck models lead the list of the most profitable vehicles in the U.S.

Close Call: Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Driver Almost Bumps Into an Audi Avant

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 03:13 PM PST

There are many good reasons why exotic supercar bloopers capture our attention. For one, these vehicles are extremely rare and cost a fortune to fix even for the smallest of damages.

Another, less noble reason, could be that some of these gaffes make you feel better knowing that, even if you will never ever be able to afford such a ride, at least you won't make a fool out of yourself on film by trying to find the reverse gear, are unable to park or by being so careless or caught up with yourself that you didn't notice the Audi that was behind you…

Anderson Germany's Murdered Out Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 01:49 PM PST

Many often ponder if an exotic Italian supercar like the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano really needs to be customized. Well, while it's a legit question, it really comes down to personal preferences. Fortunately, for those that want to go down that road, there are plenty of tuners willing to modify the 599 according to each customer's tastes and needs.

Anderson Germany is one of those tuners and it has presented a second take on the Ferrari 599. While similar to its previous tune shown in March, Anderson's newest black-widow style Ferrari has some differences, mainly inside where the entire interior has been trimmed in a combination of quilted red leather and black carbon leather with red stitching.

SPIED: 2013 Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Snagged Wearing its Production Body

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 12:35 PM PST

The last time our spy photographers caught up with Volkswagen's engineers, they were working on test mules of the seventh generation Golf GTI and Golf R models, both of which were wearing Golf Mk6 bodies on top of the German group's new Modularer Querbaukasten (or MQB) platform.

Always on the lookout, they have now managed to capture the German firm's people testing a regular version of the next Golf Mk7 complete with its newly styled body.

Albeit heavily disguised, the prototype confirms our suspicions that VW won't mess around with the classic Golf styling cues such as the think C-Column design, though the front-end of the car does appear to be sharper with the lights and grille placed lower than on the current model.

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 11:49 AM PST

The third and final film of Michael Bay's Transformers trilogy called "Dark of the Moon" came out this summer receiving fairly mixed by mostly negative reviews from critics and cinema-goers alike.

And while the series will most likely be put to rest for at least for another decade or so, some fans continue to be inspired by the movie creating their own short films.

After last year's awesome fan-made clip from the then 21-year old Alexander Vladimirovich Semenov from Russia, we will soon have another new short film that is currently being prepared by 19-year old Robert Kouba from Switzerland.

Rumors: BMW and Toyota to Exchange “Green” Technologies?

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 11:11 AM PST

Opening up a completely new segment is very risky, but if you succeed, you have the market for yourself while competitors try to catch-up. Toyota did it in 1997 with the introduction of the hybrid Prius. Now that vehicles with reduced fuel consumption and low carbon emissions are being forced upon carmakers, everyone is following Toyota's example.

But why spend a fortune to try to develop a new technology when there is already one available? In August, Ford made a deal with Toyota to collaborate on hybrid technology.

Toyota 86 Video Bonanza: Track and Road Driving, Presentation, and Promo Films

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 09:31 AM PST

So you want to see more of the new Toyota 86 sports coupe, do you? Well, we have you covered with more than a dozen fresh videos including promotional films, driving footage on the track and the road as well as clips from the media presentation at the Fuji Speedway in Japan.

For some reason Toyota has decided to name the car simply 86 in Japan and GT 86 in Europe, while the same or possibly slightly different variant with the Scion badge will be marketed as the FR-S in North America.

The key facts about the 86 include a front-mounted Subaru-sourced 2.0-liter boxer engine pushing 200-horses towards the rear axle through a short-shift six-speed manual gearbox (or a 6-speed automatic) and an available limited slip differential.

Toyota has not yet released full specifications, but a leaked brochure revealed that the JDM version tips the scales at 1,210kg (2,668 pounds) in basic trim and at 1,230kg (2,711 pounds) in the second trim level.

Honda Wants Dealers to Move “Full Speed Ahead” as N.A. Production Returns to Normal

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 08:44 AM PST

The recent floods in Thailand added yet another headache to the Japanese car manufacturers' executives, since many plants were forced to reduce production as parts supplies were severely disrupted for several weeks.

Nevertheless, Honda's U.S. sales boss John Mendel issued a memo to the brand's dealers on November 22, in which he instructs them to move "full speed ahead" in terms of sales. Mendel's memo pointed out that "our product availability is good, our arrivals are good and we will continue to have media presence throughout the month of December."

The video that follows after the break was shot in Taiwan and it shows a couple of dozen local drivers with their modded cars practicing their drifting skills on a relatively small parking lot marked with cones.

Toyota and Yamaha to Jointly Display Concept Bikes at the Tokyo Motor Show

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 08:05 AM PST

It's a very little-known fact, but one of, if not the most famous Toyota sports cars of all time, the late 1960s 2000 GT, was designed and manufactured in collaboration with Yamaha, which is mostly recognized as a maker of motorcycles, marine engines and pianos.

The two Japanese companies are now combining forces once again with a joint display of two concept models at this week's 2011 Tokyo Motor Show to highlight their new collaboration in the development of communications-linked next-generation vehicles.

Volvo not Affected by Crisis, Will Add More than 10,000 Workers by 2020 but Most will be in China…

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 07:30 AM PST

Not all car manufacturers are suffering from the economic crisis that is currently raging in Europe. Volvo, for one, is expecting to sell between 430,000-440,000 units this year, compared to 374,000 cars last year.

According to the Swedish carmaker's CEO, Stefan Jacoby, the reason for this is that Volvo's biggest European markets are in Scandinavia and Germany, which don't face the financial crisis that storms the southern regions like Italy, Spain and Greece.

Formula 1: Brazilian Grand Prix Race Results

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 05:56 AM PST

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride: this perfectly describes Mark Webber's participation at the 2011 Formula 1 season so far. Despite driving the best car on the grid and being in the top-performing team, the Australian not only watched his younger teammate clinch the title with considerable ease, but until the last race of the season didn't have a single win to show for himself.
