POLL: Which One of These Newly Introduced Compact SUVs is THE Looker?

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 07:00 PM PST

The 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show has turned out to be THE place to be if you are looking for the latest crop of compact SUVs as no less than three significant debuts took place in the City of Angels including two world premieres, the 2012 Honda CR-V and the 2013 Ford Escape, and one North America presentation, the Mazda CX-5.

And since all three crossovers will compete against each other not only in North America, but around the world as well, we thought it would be good idea to run a poll to determine which is the best looking model. We'll brief you on all three before we give you the chance to cast your vote.

We'll start of alphabetically with the 2013 Ford Escape that will be marketed as the Kuga in other regions, including Europe and China. The 2013 Escape marks a radical departure from the outgoing model not only in looks, but under the hood as well with Ford offering two small displacement turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines with up to 237HP, alongside a conventional, naturally aspirated 2.5L four-pot.

Now It's Official: Audi Gives Birth to Five-Door A1 Sportback [66 Photos and Video]

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 05:16 PM PST

After an unplanned leak earlier today, Audi finally got around to releasing official data along with more than sixty pictures and the first video of the A1 Sportback, which is more practical, five-door version of the German firm's premium supermini.

The connection with its three-door sibling can be seen in the styling, though Audi's designers did manage to add 6mm in both width and height to improve interior space. The five-door model's length (3.95mm) and wheelbase of 2.47m are identical to the three-door version.

The A1 Sportback comes standard with four seats, but Audi does offer a fifth seat on request at no extra charge. According to the German company, headroom and shoulder room have each been increased by around one centimeter (0.39 in) over the three-door model.

Sons Arrange for Their Dad to be Reunited with his 1965 Chevy Impala after 20 Years

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 02:48 PM PST

Cars are unlike any other machines. Sure, they serve a utilitarian purpose but a lot people are emotionally attached to their cars – and rightly so as regardless of their class or price and unlike other products, they can create some very powerful emotions.

Herb Younger is one of those people that love their cars. He owned a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS and kept it until the 1980s, when he was forced to sell it to pay for his two sons' tuition which, naturally, was his top priority at the time.

Herb didn't know it then but two decades later, his sons, Jared and Derek, would spent five years searching in several states with the Impala's VIN in hand, for their dad's old car.

2012 Honda CR-V: Live Photos from the LA Show plus New Videos

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 01:51 PM PST

About four months after Honda confirmed that an all-new 2012 CR-V would go on sale in America this December, the next generation of the popular crossover model finally made its debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday.

More than an evolution of the outgoing model than a revolution of the crossover theme, the new CR-V has been softly redesigned inside and out while it also sports a slightly more powerful and frugal version of Honda's 2.4-liter i-VTEC that produces 185-ponies and returns up to 31mpg (highway, FWD).

In this post, we bring you a new batch of photos from the L.A. Auto Show floors as well as three new official videos including the first driving footage and on a much less interesting note, a clip that shows several "Mommy Bloggers" and one "Daddy Blogger" talking about their experience driving Honda's new SUV – we know; you can't hide your excitement…

First Official Photos of New Audi A1 Sportback 5-Door Hatchback

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 12:42 PM PST

It was only a matter of time before Audi began expanding the range of its A1 premium supermini starting with a more practical five-door model - let's not forget that the German carmaker had teased the five-door body style with the 2008 Paris Motor Show A1 Sportback Concept.

And now we can show it to you in production form for the very first time thanks to an unceremonious online unveiling, courtesy of Russian website Cars.ru.

According to the author of the article, the exterior dimensions of the Sportback remain almost the same compared to the three-door model at 3.95m long, 1.42m tall and 1.75m wide with a wheelbase of 2.47m.

The exterior styling is what you would expect it to be: an A1 with five doors – nothing special here other than that the Sportback will be available with contrasting roof colors. The same goes for the interior, the only difference being that it is now easier to access the rear seats.

Wow Video: Amazing Driving Skills from Super 7 Driver

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 10:21 AM PST

The Seven, be that the original Lotus model or one of its many clones produced throughout the years, may be extremely light and nimble, but it also packs mighty punch and can easily turn around and bite you just when you're least expecting it -a fact that makes this driver's skills all the more impressive.

This five-year old video was said to have been shot during the Hagley and District Light Car Club's annual international autotest event in England, with some claiming that the Super Seven seen here is a Locost and not a Caterham model.

Whatever the brand, you have to admit that the man behind the wheel of the Seven, Christopher Evans, is one very talented driver. Watch the video for yourself right after the break.

Nissan's 480HP Juke-R Study Finally Fully Revealed in Photos and Videos

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 09:00 AM PST

It's been far too long in the making –let alone the endless teasing- but here it is in the flesh: Nissan's outrageous Juke-R project car that blends the eccentrically styled body of its small crossover with the proven mechanical hardware of the almighty GT-R sports car.

The result is a vehicle that defies logic and proves once again that Nissan has the guts and the will to experiment with crazy ideas. And judging by the Murano Convertible, we wouldn't be one bit surprised if someone at Nissan gave the green light for a limited production version down the road.

However, for the time being, Nissan Europe and its technical partner RML, are saying that the Juke-R is a special, road legal concept car, of which only two examples will be built, one in left-hand-drive and the other in right-hand-drive.

The new images and videos give us our first detailed look at the Juke R. On the outside, Nissan's designers applied a matte black finish to the small crossover before adding a host of aero components, the styling of which was inspired of course by the GT-R.

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 08:00 AM PST

The captivating Jaguar C-X16 Production Concept continues its world tour after its premiere at the Frankfurt show in September at this week's 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show where it made its North American debut.

The British company has already begun work on the production version as evidenced by the test mule captured on film by our scoop photographers back in mid-September.

At the Los Angeles presentation, Jaguar's Global Brand Director, Adrian Hallmark said that the C-X16 represents the best of Jaguar and that it brought the car to the States to test the waters.

Facelifted 2013 Volkswagen CC Makes its World Premiere at the LA Motor Show

Posted: 17 Nov 2011 07:13 AM PST

What's in a name? Not much, according to William Shakespeare who in Romeo and Juliet, wrote, "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet".

Apparently, Volkswagen does not feel the same way. That is why when the time came to freshen up its four-year old Passat CC sports saloon, it chose to delete the "Passat" moniker from its name in order to signal its upmarket move and severe any ties with the mid-size family sedan.

To reinforce its point, VW has made some changes to the styling of the 2013 CC that made its world debut this week at the LA Motor Show.

For many years now, Ford has been trying to transform its Lincoln brand into a credible contender in the luxury car market, though unlike its Cadillac foe, it just can't seem to get it right.
