GM Insists it Will Sell 10,000 Volts this Year but the Numbers Don’t Seem to Add Up

Posted: 04 Oct 2011 04:20 PM PDT

Earlier this week, General Motors released its US sales results for September. And the numbers are looking good as deliveries are up 20% compared to September 2010 while the Cruze remains the best-selling compact car in the country.

Yet, despite all the euphoria, GM is actually facing a small problem: even though it had initially set a target of delivering 10,000 units of its Volt hybrid by the end of the year, it is very unlikely that it will achieve this goal.

Mitsubishi to Co-Develop Wireless EV Charging System, Wants to Make Plugs Obsolete

Posted: 04 Oct 2011 02:27 PM PDT

ACEA, the European car manufacturers' association, is pushing carmakers to adopt a common standard for charging their plug-in vehicles. And that's a noble goal, since it will reduce complexity and costs and will eliminate many of the EVs restrictions.

The association's proposal, however, may be too little, too late. Mitsubishi has teamed up with IHI and WiTricity to develop an easily deployable wireless charging system for electric vehicles, eliminating the need for plugs and cords.

"We never had to deal with a car going in a circle," Captain Christopher D'Amico told NBC40 news. "We were concerned that it would change trajectory when it was bouncing up on the curb, that the tire would go in an opposite direction and send it into something else," he explained.

The deal won't take effect until it is ratified by the UAW board. This, however, is almost certain because Ford has committed to add 12,000 new hourly jobs in the US by the end of 2015 – 2,000 more than originally reported and 5,000 more than those that were supposed to be added by the end of 2012.

After the patrol car tried to follow the Supra on the roundabout the cop outsmarted the driver by turning off his emergency lights and placing the car in the middle of the road.

Given that the police car appears to be a VAZ-2110 (otherwise known as the Lada 110), we presume that the scene took place in Russia or a nearby country. Video follows below.
