Italian Sushi: Fiat Coupé Conversion with a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 1,000HP V6 and AWD

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 05:56 PM PDT

Let's just imagine you're faced with this problem: You love the Fiat Coupe's punk rock styling but don't feel the same for its front-wheel drive layout. On the other hand, you're crazy about the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4's potent and technologically advanced powertrain but can't stand its notoriously bland looks.

We'll assume that any logical person would try to find an answer by looking into another vehicle, but not these guys. Welcome to insane tuning world of Russia's Totalcar that decided to create a vehicle that promises to deliver the best of both worlds.

We're still short on the full details as this is an ongoing project, but here's the skinny: the Russian tuner took the Mitsubishi's 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine and all-wheel drivetrain and somehow managed to fit it all under the beautiful body of the Chris Bangle-designed (yes, the same person who styled the BMW E65 7-Series) 1990's Fiat Coupé.

GM PR Officially Refutes Rumors to Fund Remake of the Cannonball Run

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 04:33 PM PDT

Let's face it: we live in a politically correct society where speeding, drinking, smoking and many other things are seen as anti-social. So when a rumor surfaces that General Motors -of all corporations- is talking about funding a remake of The Cannonball Run (well, sans the smoking probably), it comes as a bit of a surprise.

For those of you too young to remember, the 1981 original's storyline involved an illegal cross-country race, with no law left unbroken. Nevertheless, NY Magazine reported today that GM is in talks with producer Al Ruddy (The Godfather, Million Dollar Baby) about participating in the project in a big way.

Fisker Karma Rated at just 52 MPGe by EPA, Records its First Sales

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 03:32 PM PDT

Even though Fisker delivered the first examples of its new Karma sedan last month, these were used purely as demo vehicles since Fisker's extended-range plug-in hybrid hadn't received the required Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification.

With this final hurdle now behind, Fisker announced today that it sold its first $97,000 Karma. "With receipt of EPA certification in hand, we have achieved a major milestone by recording the first sales of our groundbreaking Karma sedan", said an exuberant Henrik Fisker who is the CEO and founder of the company.

Video: One Very Caring Motorcyclist

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 01:12 PM PDT

Here's some proof that you don't have to be an inconsiderate driver (you can replace the description with something more R-rated if you'd like…) to make headlines.

A UK motorcyclist's simple gesture of stopping between a Ford Ka and a Toyota Avensis estate to open the latter's closed passenger-side mirror while giving a thumbs up to the driver after his deed, has garnered more than 60,000 views on Youtube in less than 24 hours after it was uploaded.

You can watch it for yourself right after the break.

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 12:48 PM PDT

If for some very strange reason you find that the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG lacks some serious punch under its hood, Germany's Vath has developed a new performance package for Stuttgart's sports saloon.

The tuner breaths more fire into the CLS 63 AMG through the use of its V63RS engine kit that bumps the 5.5-liter bi-turbocharged V8's output from 525-hp and 700-Nm to 660-horses and a whopping 990Nm or 730 lb-ft of peak torque.

Video: Beware of the Flying Dirt Bike

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 10:28 AM PDT

Figuratively speaking, there are many things one may expect to fall from the sky but somehow we didn't think a dirt bike would make the list. Up until now, that is.

Unluckily for this young lady that was out walking her dog along with a friend, a motorcycle did come crashing down on her, not from the sky but from several feet above the ground.

We don't know if this was a private dirt trail and the woman somehow wondered inside the path or if the biker was at fault for using the track. In any case, swoop down to watch the clip.

Chevy Salesmen Head to Disneyland to Become More Prince Charming when it Comes to Customer Service

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 10:05 AM PDT

Chevrolet is facing a serious problem in California: it is under-performing on the sales front in the country's largest car market. To add insult to injury, it lags behind not only established rivals such as Toyota, Ford and Honda, but also the (relatively) new kid on the block, Hyundai.

Understandably, parent company General Motors is not happy. "We are really going to have a go at California", said president of GM's North American operations Mark Reuss. "This is not some half-baked plan. We will be putting a serious amount of money into this."

New Lancia Thema Sedan Available in Europe [Gallery with 67 Photos]

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 08:48 AM PDT

On Wednesday, Lancia made its new Thema sedan available in the European market.

The Italian firm's first full-size saloon model after the ill-fated Thesis was discontinued in 2009, is one of two models to emerge from the alliance between Lancia and Chrysler, the other one being the Town & Country-based Voyager MPV.

The Thema is in essence a Chrysler 300 wearing Lancia badges and as such, it was an easy and cheap solution for the Fiat Group to expand Lancia's range upwards without sinking valuable resources into the brand that was once famous for its achievements in the World Rally scene.

Therefore, when he shows up at Maranello, he is treated more than a VIP, a celebrity or a valued customer: he gets treated like all three together.

Holden Goes Back to the Future to Restore its First Concept Model, the 1969 Hurricane

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 07:07 AM PDT

Most people around the world know Holden for building the 2000s Monaro coupe and Commodore sedans but the Australian company that became a GM subsidiary in 1931 has a rich history that goes well beyond those two models.

In 1969, the Melbourne-headquartered automaker presented its first ever concept model, the Hurricane, codenamed RD 001. It was a futuristic research vehicle described by the company at the time as an experiment "to study design trend, propulsion systems and other long-range developments".

Some four decades years after it captured the headlines at the 1969 Melbourne Motor Show, and Holden decided it was time to restore the historic concept back to its original condition and showcase it to the public once again.

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 11:33 AM PDT

As you probably have already heard, navigation system specialist TomTom was forced to stop production of the Top Gear Edition satnav and drop plans to allow existing owners to download Jeremy Clarkson's voice on their models because of a clause found in BBC's own contact.

However, TomTom had already manufactured 54,000 units of the Top Gear Edition device and the deal they came up with the British public service broadcaster, was to donate any proceeds owed to BBC Worldwide to BBC Children in Need, along with an additional charitable donation by TomTom.

If you were disappointed, you'll be happy to know that a TomTom representative came in contact with Carscoop and told us that the Top Gear Edition device is still available for order while supplies last.
