1960 Mercedes 300 SL Roadster Sold for €405,000 after Sitting in a Greek Garage for 37 Years!

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 04:49 PM PDT

It seems like the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL of the 1960s was a car that wasn't appreciated as much as it should at its time. After the lightweight special edition that was sold after sitting in a Santa Monica garage for 40 years, another example of Stuttgart's iconic sports car surfaced, this time in the Greek city of Piraeus.

The model in question is a 1960 300 SL Roadster with an original hard-top, which was rare at the time since most open-top models were sold with the fabric roof.

The 240HP 3.0-liter inline-six-powered Mercedes car belonged to Greek racecar fan Criton Dilaveris who bought it second hand a few years after it was built. Mr Dilaveris died of old age in 1972 and since he left no heirs, all his property along with the car ended up to the city.

Yet that is exactly what is being provided as a prize on the Limited Edition Forza Motorsport 4 racing simulation game for the Microsoft Xbox 360 console that features the M5 on its cover.

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 03:20 PM PDT

All car manufactures boast about the high level of safety offered by their vehicles. But we usually don't find out whether their claims are accurate until they are subjected to crash tests from the likes of Euro NCAP or the IIHS.

Since five stars have become the norm for almost all new models above the city-car level, car manufacturers are trying to outdo each other by achieving new records in each category measured by the independent safety organization(s).

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 02:01 PM PDT

Truth is, if you leave your car unlocked then you're looking for trouble, as you're making it an easy target for thieves to steal or, at least, walk away with any valuable items left inside.

In North Shore, Boston, one in every five cars checked by the police over the weekend had either unlocked doors or an open window. So the local boys in blue decided to take proactive measures: they look for unlocked cars, and/or vehicle with items that may attract attention like GPS systems, wallets, bags etc. left inside.

BMW Reveals Sixth Generation of 3-Series Sedan [Full Details and 140+ Photos]

Posted: 14 Oct 2011 09:59 AM PDT

It's official; as promised, BMW unveiled today the brand-new 3-Series codenamed F30. The sixth generation of its compact luxury sedan, which in its five iterations since its launch in 1975 has sold more than 12 million units becoming the standard in its category, will be available to markets worldwide from February 11, 2012.

According to BMW's CEO, Norbert Reithofer, the new 3-Series is "the sportiest car in its segment and offers sheer driving pleasure at the highest level".

The sixth generation mid-size BMW has grown considerably compared to its predecessor. It is 93 mm longer and an augmented wheelbase at 2,810 mm (+50mm) as well as wider front (+37 mm) and rear (+47 mm) tracks. The increase in dimensions promises to address one of the model's disadvantages compared to the competition, namely that of rear passenger space.

The new model now offers 15 mm more legroom and 8 mm more headroom for rear seat passengers. Yet, despite the increase in size, numerous weight saving measures help make the new 3-Series up to 40 kg (88 lb) lighter than the model it replaces (depending on the version).
