Video: Why Are Three Kids Riding in the Trunk of a Hyundai Genesis?

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 06:36 PM PDT

Cramming three people inside the trunk of a car sounds like a mafia move, or in a less dramatic scenario, something you world normally expect to see in an impoverished third world country.

Yet the video that follows was allegedly filmed in a bustling city in South Korea. And mind you, we're not talking about a poor-man's mode of transportation but the near luxury Hyundai Genesis sedan (if we're not mistaken, that is).

But the worst thing of all is that it looks like the individuals riding inside the trunk are three young kids. What can you say?

Organization wants NYC's Central Park Carriage -Horse Operators to Trade in Mr. Ed for Mr. EV

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 05:24 PM PDT

NY-Class is a not-for-profit organization on a mission to replace the Big Apple's venerable (though some say inhumane) carriage-horse industry with clean, electric-drive "show cars".

These "21st Century Horseless Carriage" may look like something from the turn of the twentieth century, but behind the white walls and running boards sit five modern lithium-ion battery packs good for 8 to 10 hours travel time on a 2 to 3 hour charge.

NY-Class – an acronym for New Yorkers for Clean, Livable And Safe Streets – commissioned the Fort Lauderdale, FL based Creative Workshop to produce a two-foot-long model of their proposal. The lime-green miniature is said to have cost US$12,500 (€9,335), which is an achievement in itself.

TomTom's Jeremy Clarkson Voice Pack Axed over BBC Contract Breach!

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 02:43 PM PDT

Well, at least General Motors isn't the only one making apologies today. BBC admitted that its deal with TomTom to release TopGear-branded navigation system voiced by the show's famously sardonic host, Jeremy Clarkson, violated its own editorial guidelines.

More specifically, section 15, article 4, paragraph 7 states that:

"Those working on consumer programs must take particular care not to endorse any product or service which could be covered in the programs on which they work and they should have no commercial or other links which could appear to influence their BBC work".

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 01:26 PM PDT

Our man with the long lens not only caught the FT-86 by Gazoo Racing, but he also told us that it will break cover this Saturday, October 15, at the VLN endurance racing championship at the Nürburgring.

We checked the entries and can confirm that the FT-86 has been officially listed with Masahiko Kagayama and Minoru Takaki taking the driver's seat.

Nissan Develops New Hybrid System with a 2.5-liter Supercharged Engine for FWD Cars

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 07:05 AM PDT

Not to be outdone by its Japanese and European rivals, Nissan has developed a new hybrid system for front-wheel drive vehicles, the first details of which were released today along with the announcement of its next generation XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) for use with 2.0-liter to 3.5-liter engines.

Nissan came a bit late to the hybrid game and was forced to license hybrid technology from its Toyota rival for use in certain markets in 2004.

"It was a bit of a blow to our pride, but that was the right thing to do under the circumstances," says Mitsunobu Fukuda, a senior powertrain engineer at NATC (Nissan Advanced Technology Center).

"Instead of rushing out a 'copy-cat' hybrid we wanted to take the time to develop our own hybrid, one that is clearly different – and better. I think we've managed to do that."
