| New Toyota Prius C: Leaked Brochure Reveals Standalone Small Hybrid Hatch Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:58 PM PDT  We got our first taste of the next member to join Toyota's growing family of Prius models with the Prius C concept study that made its debut alongside the Prius V minivan at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year.
With a big stretch of imagination, you might see the resemblance between the concept study and the production variant of the Prius C that evolves the design language of the regular Prius liftback. Read more »

| Peugeot 908 Hybrid4 Racer Undergoes its Maiden Track Test Posted: 17 Oct 2011 04:02 PM PDT  At the Geneva Motor Show last March, Peugeot unveiled a new version of its 908 LMP1-class endurance racer called Hybrid4 and as its name suggests, it uses a hybrid powertrain. Peugeot did not enter its new diesel-electric endurance racer in the last 24 Hours of Le Mans, nor in any other event so far for that matter, relying instead on the current 908HDi diesel. The reason is that the brand-new model was still at the early stages of development and is scheduled to compete in 2012. Read more »

| Official: New Volvo V60 Plug-In Diesel Hybrid to go on Sale in 2012 Posted: 17 Oct 2011 03:02 PM PDT  Volvo announced today that the plug-in hybrid version of its V60 estate, which was developed in cooperation with Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall and revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this past March, will go on sale in select markets in 2012. The new V60 plug-in hybrid combines a 215HP 2.4-liter five-cylinder turbodiesel with a 70HP electric motor that draws energy from a 12kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The internal combustion engine motivates the front wheels while the electric motor transfers power to the rear wheels. Read more »

| Epic Launch Fail: $2.7 Million Luxury Boat from China Sinks as it Touches the Water… Posted: 17 Oct 2011 07:08 PM PDT  Carscoop has as much to do about boats as these people have about building and/or launching them, nevertheless, a fail is a fail and we couldn't help ourselves from sharing this transportation-related epic flop that was caught on camera. Named "SS Jiugang", the luxury vessel is a 17 million RMB (US$2.7 million) project financed by China's Jiugang Group and built by the Lanzhou Ministry of Transportation. As with any maiden voyage, government and company officials organized a special event to roll out the boat into the Yellow River, complete with champagne bottles, fireworks and…plenty of cameras. On this occasion, we've snagged photos of a prototype of the facelifted A4 Allroad Quattro during testing in Europe. | NHTSA Investigates Engine Fire Reports in 36,000 Mini Cooper S Models Posted: 17 Oct 2011 12:51 PM PDT  The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) announced that it has opened a preliminary investigation on the Mini Cooper S from the 2007-2008MY for engine fires. In a posting on its website, the NHTSA said it received 12 complaints of engine compartment fire in the affected models. Read more »

| Old Lancia Stratos Meets New in San Marino Rally [Video] Posted: 17 Oct 2011 12:28 PM PDT  More than a dozen examples of the classic Lancia Stratos in both production and rally trims met up with the one-off New Stratos at the recent 2011 Rally Legend Event in San Marino The New Stratos was commissioned by wealthy German car enthusiast Michael Stoschek and built by Italian design house Pininfarina. It is based on a shortened platform of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia and features a 4.3-liter V8 engine sourced from the same model with 540-horses and more than 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of peak torque. | Toyota FT-86 Completes Nürburgring Endurance Race without a Hitch Posted: 17 Oct 2011 10:53 AM PDT  Endurance races are quite a spectacle if you are a motorsports fan. Even more so if they take place at the Mecca of tracks, the (in)famous Nürburgring circuit. It's the only place where you can see an Opel Manta or a Mercedes-Benz 190E finishing ahead of a Porsche 911 or a Lexus LFA. That's because a lot of things can happen in endurance races and to cross the finish line of the Nordschleife is in itself, quite an achievement. As we reported, Toyota decided to pull an LFA-like stunt and enter its new rear-wheel drive FT-86 coupe before launching the production version, in this past Saturday's race at the track Jackie Stewart christened "the Green Hell". | Tragedy: IndyCar Driver Dan Wheldon Dies in Massive Las Vegas 300 Accident [Video] Posted: 17 Oct 2011 10:02 AM PDT  As everyone knows, despite the advances in safety, car racing was, and still remains, a dangerous sport. Unfortunately, the Las Vegas 300 IndyCar race that took place on Sunday proved fatal for two-time Indy 500 winner (2005 and 2001) and 2005 champion Dan Wheldon. On lap 12, there was a massive pile-up on the second turn. Wheldon's car, which followed, drove right into it. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital but he didn't manage to survive his injuries. The race was canceled after five "tribute" laps. Read more »

| BMW Group to Launch MINI Brand in India in Early 2012, Prices to Start from Over 25 Lakh or $51k Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:45 AM PDT  The BMW Group's MINI brand is getting ready to add another important market to its belt as the Bavarian automaker announced on Monday that it will launch the firm's small premium models in India starting from 2012. "I am pleased to announce that the Mini will be introduced in India in 2012," said BMW India President Andreas Schaaf. "We had developed a new Mini ten years ago from the scratch. India is the only country where Mini has not been introduced. So, I think, it will be as successful here as in other countries." Read more »

| VW Group Says "Nein" to Suzuki's Request to Return its Shares Posted: 17 Oct 2011 05:55 AM PDT  The feud between Volkswagen Group and Suzuki Motors Corp. continued on Monday as the German automaker issued a press statement saying that it has no intention to sell its 19.9 percent stake in the Japanese company despite the latter's request to disband their partnership. The VW Group said it will keep its stake in Suzuki Motor Corp. "unchanged," adding "the discussion between both parties will be exclusively conducted internally" and that "it will not comment on any further speculation." Read more »

| Formula 1: Korean Grand Prix Race Results Posted: 17 Oct 2011 05:46 AM PDT  With the drivers' title already decided, the only question before the red lights went off to signal the start of the Korean Grand Prix was whether Red Bull would manage to snag the constructors' championship as well or if McLaren, the only team with a shot at the title, could keep its (admittedly slim) chances alive for yet another race.
